Dear Friends and Lovers of Earth,

Well, it looks and feels more like winter here in CO, yet green is sprouting just beneath a dusting of snow, and deer look like raggedy annes and andys as they lose their winter coat. I'm so grateful for all the moisture, yet still our Earth suffers from unprecedented drought. As we continue to cry tears of joy, loss, suffering, and celebration through Earth changes, illness, horrific actions across the planet, along with decisions sowing seeds of accountability and justice, I continue to be moved so by the beauty and steadfastness of Nature. Have you been moved to tears lately by our Earth? Go out and listen to the murmurs of a creek, or to the warble of a nearby winged one, or watch the sun glint rainbows on melting snow. Bathe in the light of the full moon this weekend, or watch the lyrid meteors today and tomorrow. There is so much to be grateful for ... Loved ones near and far, the sound of laughter, the breath of life, the taste of water, of a morsel of a favorite food.

While I heaved a visceral sigh of relief yrecently after hearing the conviction of Ex-Officer Derek Chauvin, I also cried out for him and his family, for the horrors of his actions and the trauma caused to so many others, for the penal system he'll be a part of. I cried out for all families who have lost loved ones to violence, to injustice, to hunger, to lack of water. I celebrate this example of accountability in today's troubled world, yet it needs to go so much deeper and wider. I pray that we know how to shoulder our world's hardships and suffering collectively, and truly become a united community for the good of all our relations.

And to that end, I continue to offer rhythm, song, harmony, ceremony, Council ... It's a way, the way I continue to feel called to action. Please join me ... This Sunday's Porch songs will be a celebration of Earth, Full Moon, and Mothers!

Dear Friends,

Well, we've made it to the end of this cycle! Tomorrow's Solstice, the great Jupiter/Saturn conjunction, along with recent meteor showers, and world-wide cultural celebrations of light and new cycles ... all conspiring to give us help and support for beginning again, for renewal, for rebirth, just as the sun is thought to be reborn on the day after Winter Solstice. Has this past year been a gift or a nightmare? Has it given you perspective? Has it asked you to slow down? Become more purposeful? Have you experienced sadness, loss, and suffering? Have you experienced joy and connection within your family in unexpected ways? Has it called forth even more flexibility and adaptability? A sense of confusion or doubt? No matter what our experience, we are connected! Your loss is my loss, your joy my joy ...

Can we harness the energies of this time when people all over the world are acknowledging a new cycle, rebirth, renewal? May we move as a human family towards harmony, towards deep cleansing breaths, towards ease, respect, joy and more togetherness as we begin, again.

Dear Keepers of Earth and Lovers of Gaia,

Wow, what a ride! 50 years ago in 1970, Harvard grad student Denis Hayes organized the modern environmental movement that focused attention on protecting our Earth. Climate change was not even in the national discussion at that time. Today, as Earth Day gatherings and activities have moved indoors, Denis Hayes urges us to reimagine Election Day as yet another Earth Day, and encourages us to "vote for the Earth".

Today is also the first day of the new moon, in Taurus, a great time to align with the positive aspect of the "stubborness of a bull" energy, to take action and persist in the ways we choose to, to make necessary changes in the very roots of our foundational being. On this first day of a waxing moon, I welcome the descent of Śakti energy, in the form of Devi Śailaputri, stepping down the mountain as we call on Gaia to help us, to forgive us, to receive our gratitude, and to renew herself as she renews us. It is said that she takes 1,000 steps toward us if we take just a single step towards her. She is connected to the root çakra, the Earth or muladhāra çakra ... what a perfect alignment for this time! Step, even one step, on Earth! What values do we want to hold onto with the persistence of a bull? What values / opinions / beliefs can be discarded as no longer holding true or relevant to today's world?

I write to you hoping that you are well and safe as possible. If you are one of the many who have lost a loved one or are concerned about loved ones, I hope that you find peace along the way. I pray that we know how to shoulder our world's hardships and suffering collectively, and truly become a united community for the good of all our relations. May we never go "back to normal!"
