About Julie Ann Bertram (a.k.a. Songmuze)
Originally, as a newly departed teenager, I lived in a tent with my guitar- to find solutions for my world through song, and solitude in the wilderness... To hone some kind of artistry.
A couple of years later, in home town Toronto, the fruits of this edification aided my self-esteem: winning two first-place medals for guitar composition from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Peel Music Festival), and the Sylvia Tyson Songwriting Scholarship (CMPA). I released EP JAB, and was top finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and Lilith Fair's Talent Search.
Refreshed and inspired, I released Ecstatic Songs, a beautiful project of music accompanying the poetry of 13th century mystic poet, Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi (translated with the permission of Coleman Barks). After that, I was top finalist in the Q107 Radio talent search, and won the title of Best Acoustic Female Artist at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. The last record, Woe Is Me, was released in 2007 - and then I headed north and had three children in quick succession with my partner, Chris.
We now have an Outdoor Event/Camping Facility, hosting music/camping/special events, along the Sturgeon River in Northern Ontario - where I continue to play, write and record.
