Bouncing back from a 2020 without shows, K-Blitz returns reinvigorated with his new Paroxysm EP. Paroxysm means a sudden overwhelming violent surge of emotion. Paroxysm offers a Top 40, Pop and Rap assortment about learning to live with and acknowledge past successes and failures to allow yourself to move into the future. 2020 was a pivotal year for K-Blitz’ songwriting. Seeing Nas win his first Grammy, and the massive success of Verzuz TV it proved to Blitz “The old guys aren’t dead.” Being mid-thirties, moving across Canada to clean his act up, accepting mistakes and personal flaws and the maturity of acceptance and moving forward, all resulted in Blitz’s first time being truly vulnerable on record. This project carries inspiration from musicians of various genres including Passion Pit, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake, Calvin Harris, Young Thug, The Weeknd and Phoenix. Blitz relates his personal vulnerability on this EP to G-Eazy’s “These Things Happen” and his recognizing his own growth to Jay-Z’s “4:44”. T-Pain was a big influence on the melodies used on Paroxysm, with Mac Miller also playing a large role in the overall inspiration. With current and recent radio play on several stations in 4 countries, Blitz' professional growth is self-evident in 2021. Songs like Danger and Blinded acknowledge K-Blitz's own role in past relationships and problems in life. Blinded brings closure to a relationship that's been a long running theme in his music. After understanding the drama, it is freeing. The song Red Eye is about distance within love. It represents desire and lengths a man will go for love and lust. Bounce Back deals with falling off, drug abuse, self deprecating and attacking oneself for flaws and mistakes showing how using feel good situations to cover up stress and failures. With an overall understanding of your problems and using that to do better, Bounce Back is a message a lot of people need in our world today. Paroxysm was initially created and completed in 2019, but K-Blitz mind state wasn’t right, so he decided to hold off and recalculate his strategy. Blitz decided to completely rework the project. This led him to reflect upon himself and how he was presenting his music. The only thing that is the same about this project is that it’s still called Paroxysm because in Blitz’ words “when I made the original, I felt a violent explosion of emotion, but then through 2020 living through the pandemic brought real emotions to the forefront.” This is his most personal project so far, representing him reevaluating both his stance in music and his approach in life. With hopes of live performances returning this year, and spring finally peeking its head out in Canada, there couldn’t be a more perfect time for Paroxysm.
