About kelechi
Kelechi Samuel Onyebuchi (Kaycee), was Born on the 23rd day of June 1987 and raised in a small city called Aba by his mum and his late grandma in Nigeria. His stage name ‘’Kaycee’&rs Kelechi Samuel Onyebuchi (Kaycee), was Born on the 23rd day of June 1987 and raised in a small city called Aba by his mum and his late grandma in Nigeria. His stage name ‘’Kaycee’’ was a nick name coined out from his native name ‘’Kelechi’’. From an early stage he knew he would end up having to sing to a large audience someday, but that part of him never looked forth-coming because he grew up in an environment that never listened to his soulful kind of music, neither did they believe a career can be made out of music, but rather was more interested in local trade. He always thank God for his grandma, who truly believed in me, saying ‘’I can recall as a growing young boy, my grandma would always ask me to come watch MTV, saying whenever she sees the people singing on TV, she sees me’’. Being the last child in a family of six, the norm was always to either be a lawyer or a medical doctor, which most times made him hate himself while growing up around family. In the early stages of his life, family members said he sounded like a choking bird when he sings, but everything changed two years ago when they heard him sing as a lead singer for his local church gospel choir.
Kaycee had his first feel of a group singing, when he joined his university and church gospel choir in 2012, when he came over to England to study for his post graduate degree in Business Management. In Mid-June 2013, he formed a little band of 3 with friends, which was the birthday gift he promised to give himself for his 26th year birthday celebration. A month later, he wrote, and recorded his very first song ‘’Mind Reader’’ in Bristol, which earned him his first major big show, being the opening act for the 2013 Bristol St Paul’s Carnival held in July 2013, after a music promoter heard the song play for the first time in Ujima Radio Bristol. Due to the success of his performance, which took the crowd by surprise, he was granted interview by the same radio station on three (3) different shows, where he performed some of his songs live on-air. The Song ‘Mind Reader’’ went up the top 30 spot on ReverbNation for months under the UK Soul/R n B category. In his home country (Nigeria), a friend sent the track to local radio stations, which also earned him a number one spot for one of the local radio stations countdown show. His song ‘’Mind Reader’’, is a divine raw interconnection of his voice, lyrics, and chords from the guitar to make his inner most thoughts well understood. Just like his favorite book of the Bible ‘’Psalms (meaning songs made out of strings), he saw a need to make simple songs that emotional connected with every situation we find ourselves in life, be it, Love, Family, paradise, or Loneliness. With 3 more original songs attached to his name (Be Somebody, Thinking of You, Losing You), he is ready to be heard and put his music on the footprints of time.
Kaycee seems to be the nervous and shy type when you first meet him, but once he opens his mouth to sing, a certain kind of energy takes over the whole room, which makes people to naturally just relate with him on a personal ground. An emotionally deep lyrical writer, with a sultry voice, which makes every note have a sensual or touching feel to his songs. You can easily tell from his voice that he has been heartbroken a lot of times and he constantly holds on to his past. Like he would always say ‘’ I want to make music that would make the whole world ask me just one question, which is, ‘’what made you write this song’’. He says four (4) things happen to his audience after watching him sing ‘’you would either see a reason to cry, love, smile, or make-up for a lost relationship. Constantly stirred by his uplifting energy and personal charm s underneath his smiles to light up any social gathering, you can quickly tell that there is passion behind any performance he does. Deep down his heart, you can see the little boy inside.
