Kim Yarbrough-- a voice as sultry and haunting as a Southern Summer. One of the worlds’ most gifted vocalists . . . Since her Phenomenal Splash on NBC's "THE VOICE", the world now knows just how gifted. After her appearances on "The Voice" she was interviewed on the "TODAY" Show with Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker. That same evening, she dropped in to sing with "The Roots" on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon".
Classically trained, Kim sings in every style, from Broadway to Blues, Rock to R&B, Jazz to Jingles and everything in between. Her vocal prowess has been compared to the likes of Aretha Franklin. Her latest comparison is "Jennifer Hudson meets Chaka Khan". She dominates every element— stage, film, recordings. Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph has dubbed her “Little Aretha”, The late "Teena Marie" labeled her voice as "The Truth", and legendary singer/actress, Della Reese was quoted as saying, “You owe it to yourself to see Kim Yarbrough.” Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera have consistently pronounced Kim as a versatile powerhouse vocalist and "A force to be reckoned with."
An extensive background in theater & dance, Kim is a quadruple threat. (Singer, actor, dancer and instrumentalist) She began as a young actor at the age of 8, and by the age of 14, many of the professional stages in her home of Memphis, Tennessee began to take note of her gifts, casting her in featured roles or as the lead. These roles led to phone call after phone call to do studio recordings and live performances for legends like Al Green and Bobby “Blue” Bland. The applause in Memphis was a springboard for her budding musical theater career at some of the most prestigious theaters in the world: The Guthrie Theater, The Children's Theater of Minneapolis, The Arena Stage in (expired link)., The Pasadena Playhouse, and the Le Clef Theater in Paris, France. Kim also performed in the National Tour of “Ain't Misbehavin' ” in the role of Nell, and in 2013, toured with the rock musical, "One Night with Janis Joplin", playing to sold out audiences, nightly standing ovations across the country, and which would later run on Broadway.
Kim has garnered over 40,000 international social media followers as an actress & singer in commercials, film, and on TV smash hits “Jane the Virgin”, "New Girl", "HOT in CLEVELAND", "BONES", "2 Broke Girls", "The Mindy Project", “The Soul Man”, and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Kim is also a regular comedy sketch character on the "CONAN" Show. She played a supporting role in the crime thriller, “Secret in Their Eyes” starring Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor. She also starred as "Mattie" in the critically acclaimed "Women of Brewster Place, The Musical", which won 2 coveted "Ovation" Awards, an "LA Weekly Theater Award", and an NAACP Nomination for "Best Lead Actress". Smash hits it seems, are Kim's domain. Her soulful, searing vocals were regularly featured on the FX television series "Sons of Anarchy”.
A producer since the age of 6, Kim has opened her own outrageous production shows to standing room only fans at the nations' hottest and most notorious venues: The Key Club, The Federal Bar, The Rainbow, The Mint, Upstairs at Vitello's, The Derby, Prince's fabled First Avenue & Glam Slam in Minneapolis, and (expired link). Kings (Beale Street, & Times Square). Kim rocked the Long Beach Pride Festival with her cast of 32 performers, sharing the Main Stage with Taylor Dayne, Thelma Houston, and Jennifer Holliday.
Kim picked up her first violin at the age of seven, and to her parents' amazement, immediately began to play recognizable melodies on the instrument, all before her first violin lesson. Being a violinist early on, she encountered several opportunities to play as a child professional. That career continued into adulthood, as Kim received 4 Music Scholarships, and a request to play for The Vice-President of the United States. Her first performance in LA was as a violinist in the Kenny Loggins television special, “December” with noted violinist Karen Briggs and the legendary David Foster.
Upon arriving in LA, Della Reese took note of her talent, and produced a stage show entitled, "Della Reese Presents Kim Yarbrough" showcasing her to the Hollywood Entertainment Community. Kim currently resides in LA, and has enjoyed a dream career, holding her own, alongside international artists & celebrities Jason Alexander, Jim Belushi, Katy Segal, Loretta Devine, Betty White, Cedric the Entertainer, Lalah Hathaway, Danny deVito, Octavia Spencer, Sheila E, & Stevie Wonder.
Writing her own original R&B, Gospel and Jazz songs are other avenues of success for this gifted artist. Kim has released three CDs: 2 singles, “Nice and Slow” & "Brand New Day", and an EP of inspirational songs entitled “Dharma 888”. Kim recently released her newest album, entitled “Champagne & Grits” in June of 2018.
