Sassy Blues Vocalists with a Western Flare
Born DoIIeen Crook in Lake, Mississippi on her grandparents farm and delivered by her name sake, her great grandmother who was the family mid-wife. Lady D grew up in Gary, Indiana in a large family of fourteen siblings. She graduated from Emerson high school as an honor student She then attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana majoring in Business Administration. She also became a member of the Air National Guards for three years.
Lady D grew up with her parents playing the bluesy tunes of Muddy Waters, Lighten Hopkins, John Lee Hooker and various of their other favorite artists. Her older siblings played Johnny Taylor, Little Milton, Marvin Sease, ZZ Hill, BB King and Bobby Bland. The blues became embedded and a genuine love of Lady D.
Known as the Sassy blues lady with the cowboy hat, she has developed a great fan base in a short period of time. Lady D didn't grow up singing as a child, never took singing lessons, never entered talent shows, or any other contests. This is simply a God given talent that was discovered late in life. Two and a half years ago Lady D was encouraged by her brother Willie J. Crook to sing at karaoke; the second night Lady D song again and received a forty dollar tip for one song. Three months later she received the "Best Blues Karaoke Grammy Award". Since receiving that award, she was chosen twice as the headliner in "A Touch of Class" productions.
Lady D currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia and performs in Atlanta and surrounding areas. Currently she is being requested to perform in surrounding states. Lady D has been well accepted and loved by every audience she has performed for, and audience members constantly ask to buy her CD. Their number one comment is that Lady D always make them feel what she sings. Lady D said "If I don't feel it, I certainly can't expect the audience to feel it!"
