About Rato

Rato is an Afropop artist based in South Africa. She's been writing her own songs since the age of 14. At that age she also founded a female vocal group called TIV and later PM4. After many years in the media industry especially in broadcasting she is now back with her first love, music. Kenako is her debut single with many more to come. i

Rato started performing in public at age 8. One of her favourite performances by far is performing Miriam Makeba’s Malaika alongside world renowned guitarist Simba Morri. At age 12, she represented the Kimberley Children’s Choir, which gave her the opportunity to tour Zimbabwe and Zambia. Rato has worked alongside artists such as Ringo Madlingozi, Themba Mkhize and Rebecca Malope. In 2002, after her matriculation, she dedicated a year of study in the field of Musical Theatre at Tshwane University of Technology, formerly known as Technickon Pretoria. She also partook in the DJU South African Music Conference where she did vocals for Disk Joker and Producers Charles Webster and Frank Rodgers.
