The spontaneity in his heart and soul is why Brazilian-born musical artist Levy DeAndrade loves
to play live. Live music can never be replicated in its original expression, but for Levy, playing
live concerts also means creating once-in-a-lifetime memories that take up residency in his heartland become part of him. Two such concerts with special meaning come to mind for Levy. One was a jazz concert in the UK, and the other was Clearwater Jazz Holiday in Florida. Levy believes that these two concerts were when he fell in love with the synergy between him and the audience.
His latest album, Ponta Pė, is due out 2023, his first album as a major solo artist. The
list of artists Levy worked alongside reads like the who’s who of the jazz industry, such as John
Patitucci, Dave Weckl, Frank Gambale, and Eric Marienthal, members of the famed Chick Corea Elektric Band.
Levy’s distinctive musical style stands out like a soulmate in a crowded foreign street – it’s home and passion all at the same time; at least, that’s what his music means to his adoring fans. But in reality, Levy’s style is a blend of jazz and Brazilian music, topped with some funk. It’s ironic how the uniqueness of Levy’s musical style is the one element that unites people of all cultures, religions, and lifestyles together.
Levy grew up playing music in his native Brazil. He came to the United States in 1986 and
settled in San Francisco. While there, he played with a band called Viva Brazil. But it wasn’t
until his move to Florida that Levy created the band known as Level 10, where many fans know
his music.
Level 10 played jazz concerts and festivals and received various awards. The band, through
mutual agreement, disbanded, and Levy took his rightful place as the solo artist he was meant to be. Music is Levy’s life – if he isn’t playing concerts and festivals, he creates musical
arrangements and plays the keyboard for other high-profile artists.
Levy currently resides in Florida. He is the proud father of twin daughters, now in college. Levy
lives on a farm with chickens, goats, and dogs. His hobbies include woodworking and spending
quality time with his daughters.
