About Libby Richman
With deep roots in classical music, saxophonist Libby Richman leads Libby Richman & Co., an ensemble that plays original contemporary jazz. Her sound echoes many influences including Classical, Latin, and current music.
Libby has shared the stage with jazz luminaries Lou Donaldson, guitarist John Hart, Cameron Brown, Virginia Mayhew, Eddie Bert, and drummer Sylvia Cuenca. As a side musician she has performed with Leslie Gore, Martha Reeves, The Shirelles, the Earls, The Duprees, The Kit McClure Big Band, and The Guy Lombardo Orchestra.
Concerts and events include The Newark Museum (Jazz in Bloom, sponsored by WBGO), The Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ, Mid-day Jazz at St. Peter‘s Jazz Ministry, The Sarah Lawrence College Graduation Reception, Sunset Soiree at Boscobel (Garrison, NY), Look, Listen, Lunch - Celebrate Summer in Midtown (sponsored by the Grand Central Partnership), and “The Art of Music” series at The Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University. She was also featured in the Town of Oyster Bay’s Distinguished Artist Concert Series. Libby Richman & Co. performed at Sunset Wednesdays at Wave Hill, a summer concert series in the Bronx. In December 2017 she led her trio at "Sparkle", Boscobel's Christmas festival playing holiday jazz.
In 2020 Libby Richman & Co. was featured in the AirTrain Jazz Festival sponsored by the Jamaica BID for the fourth time. Libby served as Jazz Ambassador for the Harrison Public Library at the digital concerts of Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchesta for 2019-2020. Her quintet will be performing at the library in February featuring the music of Woody Shaw, Clifford Brown and Tadd Dameron.
Libby’s love of guitar inspired the music for “Open Strings,” her latest recording. In addition she has presented her educational concert “A Guided Tour of Jazz” at libraries throughout the tri-state area, incorporating some of her own music.
Ms. Richman studied with legendary jazz pianist Sal Mosca, saxophonist/composer Bob Mintzer and with jazz saxophonist David Allan Gross.
