About Lolo Rollins
Lolo Rollins - South African born singer song-writer, award winner. multi-instrumentalist, band leader, recording solo artist and producer. Lolo Rollins (born Rollins Edwin Mankge, 12 March 1973). He was born in the township of Kwa-guqa in Witbank South Africa.
His early education was obtained in Swaziland. In 1991 he came back to South Africa when most exiled South Africans and freedom fighters came back home from all over the world and neighbouring countries after the unbanning of all political parties that were involved in liberation of the country. Apartheid had fallen.
1992 was the beginning of great things for Lolo Rollins as he started playing night clubs around Johannesburg later backing popular artists and bands as a keyboard player and guitarist.
In 1996 this multi-instrumentalist enrolled at (expired link). (Federal Union of Black Artists) in Johannesburg to study classical piano. He was voted president of the SRC (STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COMMITTEE) and became the student leader for the1996-97 period.
Lolo has worked, recorded and toured with the cream of South African music of that time namely Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Penny-Penny, The Twins, Umanji, Ebony(Linah Khama), Gito Baloi, Jeff Maluleke, PJ Powers ,Vusi Mahlasela, Faith Kekana to name a few.
He has done musicals and television dramas too, namely Hallelujah the jazz musical 1999-2001, Guga mzimba the spirit of Gerard Sekoto 2006 both for the Market Theatre in Johannesburg and Molo Fish in 1996 a political television drama. He has appeared numerous times on the national television stations.
Lolo Rollins has formed and led bands such as Coal Dust -1993, Fusion Africa - 2002 and Acoustic Africa - 2010.
His discography includes Maluju Africa his highly acclaimed debut album Maluju Africa (2011), Road To Azania (2016), Son Of The Soil (2022).
Awards: BVSM Awards 2023 - Best piano and keys category.
He is currently producing and touring.
