About Lori Jo Brooks
I wrote this song one month after my dad passed away.
I had never felt such deep heartache.
I went thru a 3 year grieving period.
My life hit rock bottom.
I had the opportunity to record the track and write some music to go to the lyrics, via a collegue of mine, so, I ventured a 3 hour trip from Indianapolis, IN to Elmhurst, IL to make a recording. 8 hours on this one track!!!!!! INSANE! It turned out perfect.
I never told anyone I was leaving town or what I had done.
I waited for the edited copy of the cd to come via mail. I gave a copy to my mother for Mother's Day, and, I gave a copy to my dad's brother on his birthday, which was ALSO, my dad's birthday. It was played over and over for 2+ hours, everyone crying in awe at what I had created.
You see, I come from an extremely musical family. Four generations of musicians.
My dad played on stage at the taverns in the 60's and 70's.
He and my uncle made a record album in Memphis, TN in 1973.
More than 30 years went by since anyone recorded until I did.
I made some musical history :)
I have performed this track twice live on stage.
I must say, the first time I performed my own music live on stage, I had the greatest experience about what Country entertainers must feel.
To write music, from your heart, out of pure pain, perform it for others, reaching right down and grabbing them out of their chair touching their soul and they can relate to your music, your words, your pain, with their own, there is NOTHING like it in all the world. Priceless!
I created a slideshow video on youtube of this song, which tells the story of the track.
I hold this piece of music so dear to my heart, because that is where it came from...
I'm a girl who lost her daddy...but, It's Gonna Get Better. And it did :)
