About Marco Giaccaria
Marco Giaccaria was born in Turin in the north of Italy in 1959. His earlier musical education, having taken his diploma as a flautist, included studies in musical composition and teaching and five years studying the violin under Jorge Roberto Regio.
Marco Giaccaria has had a rich and varied experience in acoustic music and music for the theatre.
In 1992 he took a personal innovative direction in the field of creative composition with the recording and release of his CD il mio cappello se ne è andato which brought him greater recognition among fellow creative musicians and composers of the genre and more importantly gained him entrance to the (expired link). musicians cooperative in Turin. It was with some of their number that he began to appear more on stage and at around the same time he published Senza fissa dimora, an album released under the (expired link). records label and which led him to further explore improvised music of jazz, ethnic or classical origin (such as in the case of music from North-India).
As well as playing with various Irish and Italian folk groups (Kurkuma, Kelterán), with Sharadì (a homage to the classical music of Northern India) and with the Ensemble dei Suoni Residui (Early Music), Marco Giaccaria has brought a musical research project to fruition in concert form, entitled Suoni Residui Nel Vuoto Disattento (Residual Sounds in an Inattentive Vacuum, music for flutes and computer). New projects involve Sergio Pugnalin or Claudio Lodati. During 2005 he has founded the Ensemble dell'Alabastro Sonoro, the unique world-band which play only on musical instruments hand-made in alabaster stone.
Ciarán Ward & Eire Nua restart with a new line-up at the beginning of 2006.
His last projects are duos with Claudio Lodati, with Elisa Chiaraviglio and with Silvio Vaglienti.
On december 2008 the new CD Blasta by Ciarán Ward and Éire Nua.
Between 2005 and 2010 he works on the project called Musica Mantecata, published as a trilogy (3 CDs: Sussurro e Fragore - Musica Mantecata vol.2 - Six Solos for Strings) and available as free digital download from (expired link).
Solo un flauto, ma non solo: A Flute Alone, but not Only; twenty improvisations on flute - recorded in four different places - with natural environments and other sounds. This album is available as digital download on (expired link) (December 21, 2012).
At the beginning of 2013, starts the project which involved Marco Giaccaria with the guitarist Eugenio Mirti and the drummer Sergio Ponti: Collettivo Apostrophe.
During 2013 are published the complete trilogy Musica Mantecata and the composition Nomad.
September, 2014: it's published When Irish Music..., a collection of favourite Irish and Scottish tunes by Marco; they're all performed on different instruments by himself.
October 31st, 2016: the album BEANS - Border Music from the Woods of the Moon it's published for Musica Mancina.
Marco Giaccaria is still publishing new music every year.
