A sense of Loreena McKennitt
A sensitive song, like a epos and in the beginning I feel as I am in the forest. The piano is excellent and this is a perfect song for meditation and relaxing .. definitely my style. I am happy to hear that this kind of melody can be found here on n1m. I really love it. Suggestive, warm and a kind of music so many stressed people these days really need. Her voice suits very well in this song.

SOPHIA
A beautiful haunting piano piece that allows the listener to drift away with their emotions to a calm part of the world. The subtle piano rolls keep the journey moving at pace and keeps us intrigued. Pauses allow us to breath and reflect yet the piece rolls on as if to guide us down a path we don't know. The recording is simple yet perfect for this song, I would not be surprised to hear it on a movie sound track. Beautiful !

Sounds of Distance being Worked Out
This piece has a haunted nature to it. The circular piano intro with vocal sounds as if something is being worked out. The consistant pulse soon goes into a space where the piano ebbs and flows with the voice that projects sound not words). This goes up and down speeds up and slows. Something very human about this work. You get the feeling of the moment in the extra sounds of room ambience that appears ever so often. I get a sense of some kind of loss in the work. It has a real and unreal quality and has a definite live feel with no studio over production going on.

Relaxing, experimental sounds to sooth the soul.
This music is reminiscent of an improvisational piece - light, airy, impulsive - like a sojourner wandering down a path of discovery. The vocals are "other world" in some places. Reminds me of the meditative music of 70's and 80's. Very soothing. A good meditation piece.

Cool and strange
You can listen this song, if you are cool and smart. If you want bubble gum, go to the market because here you will only find the sound of nature. Nothing else and it's better than many new age music!

ok
from the sound I think the piano is of those on the wall I guessed? The piano is the instrument I play and it is the instrument I love. in your music I perceive many sensations there is sadness, estrangement, but also hope in the future and in what good can happen. your voice is very significant, I perceive a protest against everything that is not good for you and although sometimes it is not intoned with the music, however, it becomes all one with it is how the two things merge into one thing

It isn’t exactly obvious what Marlene Apolina is attempting to create with her song Sophia, which is certainly unique. But it is also a bit messy, with loose tempos, wandering segments, and vocals which stray a bit off pitch. If this is the effect she intends, then she did a good job. Her self-introduction would indicate this is a possibility. This reviewer frankly did not know what to make of this piece. It isn’t jazz, and it doesn’t fit easily into any genre. It did seem a bit contemporaneous, as though it would be quite different the next time played. One might call that fresh or interesting, but it felt unfinished.

Talented, original and interesting
Hi, I find some nice ideas here: thre free style, like following the waves of emotions. You made this, for example at the beginning, where you use your voice freely, sometimes not perfectly in tune, sometimes like shouting, somethimes like singing. Then, from 0:50, a long, and again free, a long speech with many notes on the piano. The flow of notes is similar to what you did before and you will do after with the voice. It is still pleasantly free, and seems to follow the hidden thread of emotions. The sound of the piano, not perfectly tuned as well, is sometimes stentorious, but this gives the effect of directly following the emotions, like a spontaneous, free and solitary song between you and your soul, that you have decided to communicate to others. At around 4:25 the voice returns. at 6:19 there are a couple of high notes with the voice quite out of intonation. This is part of the style, that does not want to be pleasant or follow pre-determined styles or artistic canons, but chasing the emotions freely. Even the form of the song is free, it is certainly not the usual song with exposure and refrain etc All of that is original and interesting. As a cue for improvement, I find that vocal mastery and piano execution should be improved. In fact, I believe that by increasing the technic, both vocal and piano, you would be able to make the good ideas you have more effective. Brava, good job

I like the melody the piano sounds very nice would love to hear some words put to it and maybe a backing track from a second piano part, has a lot of potential to be even more then it is very nice keep it up.

Sophia Suite
Based on melodies from Faraway lands the mood shifts in sustained pedal strokes... against a vocally wound up charge..Not familiar enough with this style of music but may go well with dance..

Music way too long
Very good voice but try to stay under five minutes that will help your audience play your music more I mean common and also try switching your turns on time when you do this you will see a huge changes on your music

Echoes of melancholy
I have always had a soft spot for keyboards or pianos that press those pedals and open up that internal reverbation of the instrument. And listening to the piano in this song is like watching a sculpture shape a vase. You know what you see will become a vase, but its fun to watch the clay get there. The vocalist has a good tone however her pitch tends to drift into the notes and sometimes out of the notes. Try recording the song with an auto tune and then double track tthe vocals to the auto tune and then erase the previous vocal with the autotune.

Airy Fairy
This is what I would describe as an "airy fairy" type esoteric piece that is mainly instrumental with vocal accompaniment done as what I would describe as a "place holder" to add to the ambient nature. It seems to me that this might make a good background for certain movie scenes or as an outro for a movie. As a stand alone song, I would not necessarily find it to my liking. As such, I gave it a 2.6 star rating. If I were asked to rate this for its "movie value", I'd give it a higher rating.

I have to be honest and say that the sing starts off incredibly strong. Your vocals are good but when yiu taje your viuce up yiu need to watch your pitch. Yiyr viuce is sweet in tge middle talking voice rdgister but try not to push it when you hit the higher notes. The song is interesting and different , keep it up. The piano playing is good.

Sophia/ review
This selection has a parallel quality to the exploratory experimental folk rock reminiscent of the late 60's blending contemporary and indigenous themes. Thoughtful and evocative, and at moments building to a crescendo. It could work better if the vocals weren't at times flat. I don't believe the artist intended to sing flat but rather wrap their voice around the flow of scale work much like clouds over a moving stream of water. Quality reverb on the vocal track could be of assistance as well expanding the dynamics and range of the piano. The warmth was lacking in the mastering of Sophia. I would direct this last critique to the engineer on the project. Compression and clear fidelity appeared to be passed over. The track quality sounds muddied. Sophia has promise but feels like a work in progress.

10/10 for enthusiam!
I took 10 minutes to listen to - reflect and to ponder on what I heard today. I get the feeling if I paid you a million dollars - you could never play the song the same way twice! Why? It sounded incredibly random, improvised, and like it was entirely made up on the hoof! Perhaps this would have been better placed under "Jazz". As a songwriter of 30 years, I discerned no words in this piece. If it were a jazz song, I could only interpret the vocalisations as a form of "scat" as it was so loose and lucid. I guess the piece could easily be used as background music as a film score where confusion abounded and nothing was making any sense - it has that feel to it - a cry for help - a struggle to be heard; almost an air of desperation. The only thing I can take away from this piece was the enthusiasm you exhibited to actually believe in your work to the extent you actually recorded it. I would be intrigued to hear what other songs you have produce hitherto fore - as this one was not my cup of tea. Nevertheless 10/10 for enthusiasm!

Song Sophia
Nice piano from the beginning and very characteristic folk singing voice. Also the piano proceeds to sound find softly with some fine harmonies in the way of the development of the solo, where in the end the ostinatos characteristic. Good form building with the singing after the piano solo. Also a suitable piano finish in the end. It is to wish to make the singing itself more clear and precise and to work more on harmonies themselves!!

Interesting, but too long. Unfortunately I cannot really relate to this song as it is beyond my musical boundaries (i.e. I have significantly different taste in music). To me it is made up of two different musical pieces, quite meditative..... moving from tranquil to stormy and then softening up again. with the instrumental sections being preferred. Unusual for me .... but not really my taste.
