Born in 1962, Marquette, (expired link) Markus Roth, grew up in a time of worldwide musical revolution. In the American music scene, styles like soul and twist arose as new competitors to classical Blues and Rock’n’Roll. Meanwhile, Beat appeared on the musical horizons of Great Britain.

It was Markus’s uncle, four years his senior and himself a drummer in a jazz rock band, who introduced him to the music of Chick Corea, Billy Cobham, Yes, ELP, Pink Floyd and King Crimson. Playing in various bands, Markus gained first experience with keyboard instruments, computers and sequencers, also honing his skills as a composer. Thus, it is not surprising that such instruments as the Hammond organ, Hohner Clavinet D6, and Rhodes Mark I found their way into the studio and onto Marquette – Human Reparation.

The internet likewise became a powerful tool in Markus’ repertoire, connecting him to other, likeminded musicians from all over the world. The first professional collaborations saw the light of da. Thus, Achim Wierschem, known for being the guitarist of German Progressive Rock Band Flaming Bess as well as for his solo work as Mindmovie, took notice and asked Markus to contribute for Flaming Bess’ latest release Der Gefallene Stern (2013).
