About Matt cressey
Singer, song-writer & guitarist Matt Cressey was born in the steel town of Scunthorpe in the North East of England in 1971. He learned to play guitar at age 13, taught by his father, a working musician playing in different groups of Country & Western with some success and by sharing a bedroom with an older brother who was and still is a teddy boy ... his musical interests are diverse and trained from a young age.
The first group arrived at the age of 14, a garage rock band with some friends. Together they produced a couple of original songs, some concerts, a demo tape and .... some annoyed neighbors!
The second group was formed after high school, The Chill, with whom he toured various clubs and pubs in the north of England, playing rock n roll and modern classics. This allowed him to hone the ability to play. The band broke up in '91 when Matt enlisted in the Royal Air Force (RAF) to serve for Queen and country.
At age 20, not long after signing up for the military service, Matt was transferred away from home and went to live in the city of Norwich, where he met a group of friends with the same passion for music. Together they decided to create a band, Lardy. Soon the group had great success, especially artistically since most of the songs were original material, with a few covers during gigs.
The Lardy have toured England performing in famous clubs in London as The Dublin Castle in Camden and the famous Hope and Anchor in Islington. A self-funded CD entitled "Who wants to kiss a fish?" Was recorded and produced by the band and has sold many copies, with emissions of some radio and TV.
The Lardy disbanded after a few years and in 2005 Matt he moved to Italy to live with the love of his life, his wife, whom he had met in Puglia in '94 during a war mission in Bosnia.
There followed several years without a group .... even if the guitar has always been close by!
Matt's main influences are blues, rock, Trip hop, Lo-fi, Indie and alternative rock.
This brings us to today .... Playing guitar with the mighty Mucho Mojo Band, guitar and bass with '1113' band and Max Bottini and now writing songs again and making original recordings ... ... rock on!
