Hi all, it’s September and I wanted to send out a
great big thank you to everyone who has been
streaming, listening to, reviewing, sharing and or
promoting the music of Mavericks n Misfits via N1M
or their FB pages. In this modern age of social media
and networking via our lap tops n mobile devices, just
knowing that people are actively listening and sharing
the music I’ve worked so hard on is heart warming and
life affirming. Okay, I don’t want to gush too much here
however, I do want to share all the possible ways you

Well my friends and fans of the music of
Mavericks n Misfits it’s been a long time
since I’ve composed a news letter. But,
I have a great reason for doing so today!
As of Sunday July 15th the 6 song Mavericks
n Misfits EP “The Big Emo” was released for
purchase and digital distribution via CD Baby.
So for those who have asked where can I buy
and download songs by Mavericks n Misfits
you can do so here:

Also you will be able to stream it on sites like
Spotify shortly, find it on I-tunes and amazon
music and a multitude of other sites in the coming
days n weeks. Eventually I will create physical Cd’s
for sale and put out feelers for potential live gigs
should there be enough interest.

I thank you for being patient, it’s a hard road these
days to be a solitary song writer and shoulder all
the costs of producing your own music. But it’s all
been worth it as indicated by the many letters I get
from N1M Members and the outstanding reviews some
have posted about the songs.

This song is clearly my quirkiest of the 6 songs from Mavericks n Misfits. I originally wrote it about people who troll online chat rooms and some shady dating services. It's a call to be clear and truthful at a time when so many people create these fake avatars for themselves via Facebook and else where. I had fun with this tune and I tried to end on a positive note! It's my version of a Tango, or at least as close as this gringo will get to Tango! The middle bridge and ending sections are my nod to bands like King Crimson. I tried to capture a sort of demented carnival atmosphere with the keyboard sounds. Has with the other Mavericks n misfits songs, the players out did themselves. Enjoy: "Calling All Surfers"

All 6 songs from my Mavericks n Misfit project have been posted, even got a few reviews for the song "Baby it's you" This news letter is to promote the title song for the M+M project "The Big Emo" It's my attempt at a big song, with giant chorus. But, for me it was also about how fragile our feelings can be. And how we often feel so far away from each other emotionally. But not to worry because as the song says "Even in darkness, love can still be found" I hope you enjoy listening to "The Big Emo" as much has I enjoyed recording it. Namaste! Jester ;)

This song has some history behind it. It's title came from
a performance art cabaret I had written way back in 1991.
I created this character called the Drifter who doubled has
an MC to tie together my non linear story line.

Long story short I had always wanted to write a song based
on one of the stories told by the Drifter during my show.
So after many years on the back burner of my imagination
here it is.

Again huge shout out to Jon, Mathias, Rob and Mario for
all they brought to realize my little dream. I give you: The Drifter!

"The Girl with the Million Dollar Smile" Is song no# 2 from my collection of
new solo material. On this outing I went for lots of space, keeping the bass
line sparse and syncopating off the root notes on the verses with harmonics.
The verse guitars falling neatly between the bass and fleshed out with lovely
melodic piano work and spot on great percussion work.

The over all feel I'd describe as Bossanova, with my usual Jay Cavanaugh
NYC twist. I feel that all the players involved did outstanding work especially
in the bridge section. The Lowden acoustic guitar, and the amazing drums n
percussion resembling a bit of Brazilian carnival goes to a whole new level
with the soaring completely improvised Piano solo which gives me chills
when ever I listen to it. Plus, catch that awesome strange guitar chord
just before we come back for the final chorus! (I love a good surprise)

Note: This piano solo is a complete one take performance, I instructed
the keyboardist to visualize the woman of his dreams the one who floats
his boat and this is what he played.
BTW, the woman he visualized is now his wife.)

Engineer and coproducer Mario Salvati labored to make the material
from rough tracks to finished product with maximum warmth to capture
that old school analog sound.
It's a sound I hope to transport it to vinyl eventually.

I could keep on blabbering enough about the super percussion,
guitar and piano work on this number, but enough of my ramblings,
best to just hear for yourself. Enjoy, 4 more songs to go! Ciao for now!

Well it's official, I'm starting to release my solo material under my new project name "Mavericks n Misfits. It's been a long time coming I know and I'm sorry for the wait. I've been in a state of musical limbo the past few years trying to make up my mind how I want to be involved with music going forward. I've decided to take the lone song writer approach and hire musicians to record what I hear in my head on a project to project basis. So I'm starting today with the song "Baby it's You".

"Baby it's you", is my attempt to fuse my love of Brazilian music with more straight up pop rock. Most of the themes I'm dealing with in Mavericks n Misfits are emotional relationships. It's a bit lighter over all than what I was doing in Agents of Karma. I do hope you like the new direction and please, please don't hesitate to write me if the music catches your ear.
I love hearing from "real" listeners.
