I was never satisfied with the mix of my 2018 album The Recovery Position. Its creation had been such a torturous experience with the sudden death of my wife during the writing process, which put the project on hold for a couple of years and the loss of both of my parents just after recording was completed that I should probably have handed over the final mix and mastering to someone with a bit of emotional distance. Anyway, five years later I've revisited the album and if, as I always suspected during recording, this turns out to be my final statement (apart from preparing the previously unavailable on digital 2008 album Life By Misadventure) I I can at least be reasonably content that I gave it my best. The Recovery Position 2023 Mix is available on Spotify, Deezer, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon and most other outlets. I suffered for my art on this one. Now it's your turn.. Mick xxx

The photo is from the last gig I did before lockdown. Seems like ages ago. Probably because it was. There was a prog gig booked for August but that got pulled this week for obvious reasons. I'm remixing my 2008 album Life By Misadventure but with the two albums that followed it - ferrism and The Recovery Position - still doing OK on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon there's no rush.

Hope you're all keeping well during these trying times.
As a journalist I tend to think it's my job to report the news, not to BE the news, but obviously this conflicts somewhat with the need for an artist to get his stuff out there and heard.
As unlikely as it seems to me, considering how much gracious support I receive from people on various platforms all over the world I guess it's possible some of you may want to know more, and rather than subject myself to being misquoted or letting some trainee embarrass themselves with their lack of background knowledge, I've come up with an idea.
While we're preparing for coronavirus lockdown, if any of you have any questions (within reason) on songs or the writing process, just message me and I'll do my best to give a reasonably intelligent answer.
Stay well everyone.

The new album, The Recovery Position, is finally available for download from iTunes and Amazon or for streaming on Spotify or Deezer.
It's been a long, hard road to get this done. The sudden death of my wife in 2015 meant I didn't do any writing for a year and just as I finished the final mix just before Christmas 2017 my father passed away. This is for them and for the 10 sets of footprints that are left.
I hesitate to call this a concept album but there's certainly a theme running through the songs. How could there not be? It strikes me that we think we are in control of our lives, but we're not. Lives can be snuffed out in a moment by natural disasters or terrorist attacks and it's all down to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Our aspirations, our careers, our mental health, our futures such as they are, are governed by decisions made by others behind closed doors over cheap coffee and crap biscuits.
So while we try to find our way out from the middle of the maze all we can do is assume the recovery position and hope we don't choke on our own vomit while we ride out the storm.
Oh, and there's a cool funky song on there too.
Enjoy!
Sorry about the swearing.

Hiya,
So five basic tracks are completed for the next album - Recovery, Shattered, Detonate The Hate Bomb, Five Years Later and So It Is... They just need guitar overdubs and vocals. Writing 2 others and start recording a song called Husbands and Wives this weekend. This is the first time I've done the writing as I've been recording other songs and it can be a real brain scrambler because I like to get a basic arrangement bedded into my head before I start recording. I can confirm that the album's title will be The Recovery Position and although I'm not setting myself any deadlines I hope to have it completed before the end of the year.
Had a bit of a shock last week when I checked my label/publishing email account to find messages from all over the world from people listening to Roll Over Play Dead from ferrism on internet radio. So that was a real boost.
Talk soon. Thanks for listening.

Hello everyone,
Recording on the new album is going well and I'm still writing as I go along. In fact, at the moment I have the lyrics to one song coming through at the same time as the music for another - all while I'm recording another! Who said guys can't multitask?
Speak soon

My album ferrism is now available to download from (expired link) either as individual tracks (if you have the attention span of a goldfish) or the complete album for those of you who remember when buying a whole album meant something.

I haven't been checking my messages for a while due to a sudden bereavement in January so imagine my surprise when I signed in today and found that All You Ever Gave Me Was The Horn from the ferrism album was at No2 in the UK national N1M chart. I wasn't even aware that anyone out there was listening so thank you. There's another track from that album up here now and this week I finally got my arse back into the studio to start work on the next album. In the meantime, ferrism has been remixed and remastered and is about to be repackaged and made available to buy or download. So watch this space.
Once again, thank you everyone!
