Progress Update: 2018 Remake - "Child of Dreams"
So, I've moved into/onto a 5 acre farm in Jacksonville, Oregon. Deep in the Applegate Valley. It's gorgeous here! The Applegate River runs through the forested landscape, and when it is not raining or snowing, I am out on the property reworking/rescuing it from years of neglect. Other than music, remodeling and landscaping is at the top of my list of things that make me really happy and excited!
And when the weather is too wild to play outside, I am in here, by the fireplace, making music with my new StudioOne3 DAW, and kick-ass JBL Studio Monitors.
Six weeks ago I had hernia surgery, but now I am back to full physical fitness, and feeling great!
I have been working on this new version of "Child of Dreams" for a couple of months now. Laying down the basic tracks (Guitars, Bass, Vocals), composing and arranging the extensive orchestrations, and learning this new DAW, which is simply amazing!!! It is limitless! Down the Rabbit Hole!
The song is really taking shape now, but it's going to be a few more months before it is finalized, mixed, and mastered. I chose one of my hardest songs to learn this new DAW with on purpose. When I am done with this one, everything else will be easy as can be. As soon as I can, I am going to send this to an amazingly GREAT drummer in Canada to put the drums on, and then I will enter the mixing process. I am already 36 tracks, and this will probably be 50+ tracks total to mix. The biggest project I have ever done!
As most of you know, the new music marketplace demands the release of a new song at least every month, posted on every site imaginable. Spotify being the top of the list! For this purpose, I am not going to release the new songs until I have a backlog built up (think Double or Triple Album/Playlist) so I can be consistent with my releases. I have a lot of work to do this year to set everything up so as to make the most of my new studio here. This wonderful "Applegate Studio" I have been waiting all my life to have.
I will release a rough, reference mix here on N1M for all of you who follow me so graciously, but again, it's not going to be for a few more months. After that, there will be streaming elsewhere, and websites where my music and merchandise can be bought, if you want to help me move forward with more and more music over the coming years.
Sorry to be such a tease, but the music business has changed drastically, and I need to do this all correctly so I can continue to eat and keep a (new) roof over my head.
The demo I am linking here is one I did on my old ProTools setup a few years back. I liked ProTools, but hated Avid! The demo here is called "No More War!" and will give you an idea of where I am going with my new StudioOne3 DAW. "No More War!" is long (almost a half-hour!) because it's episodic. It's the soundtrack to a visual piece telling the story of war's aftermath in the 21st century.
I wish you all the best of luck in all that you are doing, and I want you to know how deeply grateful I am for your kind consideration for me and my music.
Peace and Love Always!!!
