Big Al used to hang out at this funky little Diner on Fry Street in Denton, Texas. He was a good story teller and would always make us laugh. He was silly and very entertaining. He was an incredible drummer and talented musician. Every Sunday he would go to Bruce Hall the musicians dorm in Denton and round up some players for a jam at his house. He had a big place on Hickory Street and his drums were always set up in the living room. The house was big enough for four guys. He was always practicing working on a new beat or new idea. Always refining or improving his technique. Working on rudiments and experimenting with different feels. It was not long after meeting him at the Diner that my friend Alex Senescu and I moved into the Big Jam house with Big Al. We had some good times and made a lot of music, with all kinds of people every Sunday. The Song Diner is about Big Al and his love of people and bubbly personality.
