Miles started singing and writing songs at an early age. By the age of 13, he was directing choirs and leading workshops. His first group, known as the Young & Saved Chorale, was formed when he was just 17 years old. The group performed locally and opened up for numerous national gospel recording artists. In January 2001, Miles attended Benedict College located in Columbia, SC. There, he was selected to be President and Student Director of the World Renowned Benedict College Gospel Choir. Under his leadership the choir won National Gospel College Choir of the Year. He also penned the song that won Song of the Year for South Carolina State University in that same competition.
In January 2003, Miles’ younger brother was abruptly and brutally murdered which shook his whole world. During this time, and for a prolonged period afterwards, Miles strayed away from the church and picked up several hidden habits and addictions that almost cost him his life. Through it all, he never stopped writing. Writing became his therapy as he continued to create songs that helped heal the hurt and pain.
After his bout with himself and what felt like endless pain, God delivered and positioned Miles to share the songs he created to help others. His objective was not only to encourage the church and the already saved, but also reach people that are searching for an answer, an escape, and the ones who may not know that God truly cares for them, through the avenue of music.
Miles is now the CEO of MME Music Group. He decided that it was time to let go of things that reminded him of dark times in his life and begin to celebrate the new. He founded the group, Nu’Movement, which consisted of several members of the former Y&S Chorale as well as a few new and dynamic voices. He attends New Beginning Ministries where the overseer is Bishop Hezekiah Pressley, Jr. Miles Mealing & Nu’Movement debuted their first single, entitled “Try Jesus” in May of 2012. “Try Jesus” was nominated for 4 Rhythm of Gospel Awards, the country’s largest Gospel Award Show for independent gospel artists. The nominations included Best Performance by Group/Duo, Best Performance by Praise and Worship Artist, Best New Artist, and Song of the Year. The group traveled down to Jacksonville, Fl this past July for the televised award show. They made several appearances as well as a performance at the New Artist Showcase. Miles Mealing & Nu’Movement are the 2013 Rhythm of Gospel Award winners in the category for Best Performance by Praise and Worship Artist.
Miles currently serves as the worship leader at Good Shepard Baptist Church in Augusta, where Rev. Clarence Moore is the pastor.
