just wanted to let you know of a few NYC gigs coming up this weekend and next week that if you're in the area you may dig...i'll go in reverse order:
Monday May 1st, i'm hosting the Vandojam at Zinc bar. The vandojam is an event sponsored by Vandoren, a wonderful company based in paris (and new york) who makes the best saxophone and clarinet mouthpieces and accessories on the market. I am a proud endorsee and have been for some time. The first monday of every month Vandoren hosts a jam session at the legendary zinc bar in greenwich village and a different vandoren artist hosts it. This coming monday, may 1st i'm honored to bring the mitch marcus quintet in to play the first set of our original music which will be followed by a jam session featuring some of the best musicians in the new york area. Come out and check it out if you're around. it's a bit late but worth it! 10pm till 2am
Saturday April 28th - i'm playing with Joe Gallants Illuminati Orchestra at Club Bonafide on E. 52nd st
The illuminati orchestra plays joes incredible arrangements of grateful dead tunes written for 18 piece big band. It's pretty awesome and i highly recommend coming out for it!

just figuring out how to use this N1M interface here! thanks for signing. I also send out a newsletter of my own once every month and a half or so, so let me know if you'd like that as well. In the meantime, i hope if you're in the NYC area you'll come and join me next wednesday evening, november 16th at Cornelia Street Cafe. I'll be playing with Ches Smith on drums, Tom Chang on guitar, and Leon Boykins on Bass. Two sets, 8:00 and 9:30. We will be playing 3 brand new tunes as well as a bunch of others!

Native New Yorker Mitch Marcus is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and arranger, who primarily plays saxophone and piano/keyboards, and clarinet. “His commanding touch and his startling use of the various sounds of bebop — wobbly, sweltering, and explosive — are unmistakable.”~SF Chronicle
Mitch is an active performer who plays and tours regularly with many groups whose styles span the a wide range of musical genres and styles from progressive jazz to afro-beat and the folk music of 60’s icon Donovan. He can be seen playing with The Mitch Marcus Quintet, Sam Minaie’s trio Heyo,Victor Baker Quintet, Aphrodesia, The Japonize Elephants, Invaders Trio, Jaan Gaati Band, Molly Tigre, The Get It, Stanley, Old Rugged Sauce, Kaylin Clinton, The Humdrums as well as Aaron Freeman’s band, (of Ween), Marvelous Clouds tour, Donovan, and Hush the Musical, and the Dooples all of which he is/was Musical Director.
Mitch is a prolific composer writing extensively for his own jazz quartet in addition to the Mitch Marcus Quintet, the MMQ + 13 big band, for which he won a “Subito” grant from the American Composer’s Forum. Mitch has also been commissioned to write compositions for the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco, Oakland’s ‘Counterpointe’ dance company, several independent films, and recently was given the honor of opening the SF Jazz Centers Joe Henderson lab, performing an expansive concert of Henderson’s music.
Mitch holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the Indiana University School of Music at Bloomington, where he studied with David Baker and Tom Walsh.
In addition to performing and composing, Mitch accompanies company class for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Mark Morris Dance Group and while living in the SF Bay Area, frequently played the National Anthem at Oakland A’s and Golden State Warriors games.
