About Mizz Ya-Yo
Chicago, IL has had an underground scene full of hard working artists for over 2 decades. A whole independent network of rappers, singers, producers, djs, directors and even promoters and venues who share the passion of creating art for their city. Over the last few years it has grown into something of an industry inside of the city.
In that mix of growth is a female rhyme spitter out of the Calumet Park area of Chicago. Mizz Ya-yo has been laying her foundation in the music scene independently at an extreme rate. She has been part of several movements of unity in the Chicago scene. As well as a heavy contributor to many popular venues “Hip-Hop” nights. Her company 12seven graffix has been behind majority of the promotional material released for the undergrounds hottest spots to premiere new music. This award winning artist is continually nominated in the Chicago circuits of celebration and holds many trophies of wins as well as twice awarded the “Best Female Rapper” award. And her honorable mentions and accomplishments continue to grow.
Mizz Ya-yo first hit the scene with her catchy titled project “Raw, White and Addictive.” She then followed behind with 3 more projects over her time in the game. Her style was very raw and in your face. Never really sure of how far she will go with the next line makes her music more anticipated. What always set Mizz Ya-yo apart, was her versatility in both style and character. Never scared to express her emotion as a woman, but never denying she is a lady who will f**k you up. Put it all together and it creates a melting pot of content and just raw uncut and often brutal bars.
Her 3rd project release “Bag Lady” showed the growth as both a person and an artist. Its feedback was enough for Mizz Ya-yo to know stepping out of the box, might be the way to go. And she has been doing so ever since. She really topped it when she traded her Jordan’s for heels, let her hair down, and gave us a whole other side of her with the “Being Petty Betty” project. Amazingly put together, it only gave listeners a more in depth connection with who she was away from music.
Her upcoming release is a follow up to Bag Lady. Seeming to approach this project with a “the Boss is still here” attitude, and simply titling it “Bag Lady 2,” Her first video released from the project, All Day, a remix to the Kanye West song, or as she calls it, a “she-mix”, is showing right off hand she has touched another level of her career. Style and delivery play a big part in this upgrade as she mutilates the instrumental with aggressive technique. From drill to twist, Mizz Ya-yo flips her patterns and owns the beat. In a genius play, All Day was a short, rugged and to the point music video…honestly leaving you wanting more.
In a chess like move reminiscent of many major industry players, Mizz Ya-yo signed on with the independent machine Harvey Finch Enterprise. And immediately following the announcement, released the professionally filmed and statement making “All Day” music video. With more videos in the works, we look forward to the promotion for, and the release of “Bag Lady 2”.
