About Nashista
Traveling for many years throughout North America as singer, songwriter, and guitarist Michael Alan Kowal, Nashista rooted his musical background solidly in extensive live performance on the folk music circuit. Billing himself as 'Uniquely Original in the Folk Tradition', he enchanted cafe and music hall audiences from coast to coast. A synthesist at heart, Nashista left folk music in 1996 for a lifelong dream of orchestral score writing. For the past 16 years he has focused primarily on writing music for small, independent films, and has produced several cds in the meditative, ambient, and world genres for the healing practices of Yoga, Tai Chi, QiGong, and bodywork.
His newest 2015 CD, released in the world music genre is titled 'The Auotpoietic Man', with songs reflecting both the deep and frivolous sides of human life on a planet constantly embroiled in the throes of major change. Previously released are his ambient / meditative works entitled 'In the Garden of Enlightenment', a guided meditation, (2010), and 'Gaia Ma', (A Yogic Journey), (2011), following his two very popular works, 'The Sacred Voice Within', (2005), and 'Forever My Child of Autumn', (2007). His CD 'Season of Light', (2009), was a brand new release for the winter holidays, and has been dubbed by Nashista fans 'a transcendental musical celebration of peace'. Michael has also written and performed extensively for a Dutch video production company, World Nature Videos, creating supporting music for various beautiful landscapes captured on video from around the world. As well, his work has been commissioned by various other organizations and individuals using his music to embellish and enhance their own offerings of group meditation, yoga, and self empowerment workshops and seminars.
Nashista's devotion lies deeply within manifesting a 'message in the music', as he has over the years replaced his talents for writing folk music with a flair for creating elegant mindscapes through layer upon layer of intricate instrumentation. Utilizing a very unique improvisational style, his music wafts between graceful, simplistic piano lines and lilting choirs to visceral, primitive native beats to the grandiosity of sweeping orchestrations, at once elevating the listener's thoughts while bringing them to tears.
