A Single Yellow Rose.. a beautiful sentimant
Mike Bryant brings us "A Single Yellow Rose"... aptly put remembering dear mothers who gave all and have gone before us. This song was written with pure intentions and conveys the good memories only a mother can leave... The Lyrics bring home the importance of mothers and the selfless contributions they make in shaping our lives while growing up. Mike portrays this sentiment perfectly with his touching lyrics such as "In remembrance of the one who filled our home so full of life..." and "there's a marker on a piece of ground and on that marker..." also "so many years shes been gone now and all her love still in my heart..." and painfully the lyric "I wasn't there to say my last good-byes and it still haunts me..." are wonderful and to the point beautiful mementos of a dear mother. Mike has a great country singing voice and I enjoyed the sincerity of this heart felt performance the listener hears the honestly of his lyric and sadness in the tone of his voice. The melody and arraignment is perfection for this type of song accompanied by excellent guitars, slide guitar and over all skilled instrumental performances. I thoroughly enjoyed "A Single Yellow Rose" Great Job!

A Single Yellow Rose
A touching song from a son to his mother and how he remembers her love for him and life in general. Although it tells the full story, I think it is a little too long. Needs to be closer to three minutes. Music is very good, vocal could be a little better. Words are dragged out and vocal quivers during holds at end of some verses. I have heard worse recordings on the radio. All in all I would say this is a pretty good song.

A Poignant Homage To Mothers Everywhere
A beautifully crafted ballad that marks the memory a man feels for his mother. The Chorus and hook flow naturally and smoothly from the verses. The production is top shelf and the arrangement features steel guitar, fiddle, background vocals in addition to the standard rhythm section. The lyrics vividly paint a picture of devotion and that single yellow rose.

For anyone who doesn't know, Slicethepie is a music review site where ordinary members of the public can join up free as a scout (also called reviewer), listen to new songs, and write a short review about the song for a small payment. Each review is just the member's opinion of the song and/or artist. No special musical skill or knowledge is required as the site wants the opinion of the wide general public. In recent years, it has also enabled members to give reviews on fashionable clothes and phone cases, but those are more of a sideline, so this article is only concerned with the music side of Slicethepie and how to write song reviews. As an experienced reviewer on Slicethepie and musician, I wrote this article to advise new scouts on how to write reviews that can be more helpful to the artist, even if they (the reviewers, not the artists) don't have any formal background in music.

Tears
This is an absolutely beautiful song. My eyes filled with tears as I listened but not only for the sadness of losing my own mother in 2003 but also an incredible feeling of actual happiness at the memories is led me to think about. My mother was a single parent to 3 children but although she worked non stop she filled our home with so much love that you never doubted you were special to her. Love your vocals also. A really awesome song! Thank you

Pretty sad song with haunting steel guitar
Sad song about Mike's mother, haunting steel guitar, beautiful vocals, nice background vocals. great arrangement. Reminds me of Conway Twitty. Fiddle parts blend in nicely with the guitars and steel guitar. Traditional country song that will make you cry.

A Single Yellow Rose
It only takes one time to listen to appreciate the song and the singer. First the singer. Very well done with a nicely blended vocal delivery that is smooth and in pitch from start to finish. The arrangement is pretty much down the middle of the classic country sound but is very appropriate for this song. The musicians were right on the mark with the arrangements and delivery. The mix was also was spot on to where the emotion and sound of the track was matched to fit the lyrics of the song. This piece has all the earmarks of the Nashville studios and the A team musicians. As for the song, it is very well written and the melody and lyrics are immediately likeable. I am not sure however, just how commercial this song would be. I am mixed between how it sounds like a lot of the other music that has been produced and been successfully or whether the topic is too personal to ever make the radio play schedules. All that said it is a good production and gives a class A delivery. Notwithstanding my mixed view of marketability and topic. this is a 5 star sound to my ears.

Real homespun Country
Now this is what I call real homespun country music, a song that everyone can relate to. A sincerely worded dedication to the singer's mother. Full marks for this super arrangement with some excellent musicianship and the production really professionally arranged. Mike Bryant has a genuine country voice which delivers his song with realism and a deep loving feeling - you have my vote amigo for a truly lovely song - may you continue to write and perform more like this one. Keep it REAL country buddy. Regards Johnny Ramone of Angel International Management (UK)
