Biography :
“TARİST” [ Tar player (Authentic Turkish stringed instrument), composer, arranger ]

Born in 1962 in Istanbul, the artist completed his elementary and middle school education,
continuing his musical training that he took up in his childhood at ITÜ Turkish Music State
Conservatorium he enrolled in the year of 1978.

Winning the exams of Turkish Radio and Television Institution in 1980, he began his duty as Tar
player at Istanbul Radio.
He gave recitals at several universities and in AKM (Atatürk Culture Center) between the years
of 1981-1996. He performed many duets accompanied by the piano at TRT Istanbul TV. In addition,
he made polyphonic arrangements and performed in televisions pickups with Folk Instruments
Orchestra for TRT and TV 2.
He played locally and represented Turkey at “Folk Music” festivals in the abroad.
Together with the Classical Fiddle player Nevbahar Özel he established the “Pop Folk Band”
named “Travelers of Music” in the year of 1989, recording two albums with them.
Again in 1989 he completed his master’s degree at ITÜ Social Sciences Institute. In the same
year he represented Turkey in “EBU Folk Music” festival organized in the town Fagernes in Norway
and was nominated the first prize in solo performance category.

In 1990 on the other hand, he released an album for Raks Music titled “My Azerbaijan”,
composed of ancient songs, in which he also displayed his talent as a vocalist. He also made the entire arrangements for this (expired link) was appointed as a Tar teacher at ITÜ Turkish Music State Conservatorium between the
years of 1991-1994.
He gave a recital featuring Tar-Piano and Tar-Guitar duets at PERA Fine Arts Center in the year
of 1998.
In 2000 He recorded two albums for the company DMC composed of folk music of Azerbaijan
and Kirkuk, for which he also made the arrangements.
In May of the same year he gave a solo concert accompanied by TRT Ankara Stringed
Instruments Chamber Orchestra during the “Spring Concert” which was broadcasted live on TRT and
TV 1.
He gave a concert in the frame of “Compilation for the 18th EBU WORLD MUSIC WORKSHOP” in
May of 2003.
In 2008, "TURKISH VARIOUS CULTURES ENSEMBLE " and 1June, he presently serves as the "Opening
Ceremony 28. WORLD hemophilia congress" which made the Lutfi Kirdar hall.
Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music StateConservatory between the years 2009-2011 he
worked as an instructor of Tar.
AK Music and, in October 2010 "TARİSTANBUL" released the album under the name of ethnic-
jazz style.

December 21, 2010 in the concert hall IFCA "NEVCİVAN ÖZEL PROJECT" concert held.
15 December 2011 in Doha Qatar "MAGIC Lutes" project in Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, gave
a concert.
CRR Concert Hall on December 24, 2011 in the "taristanbul" concert.
He still serves as the TRT Istanbul Radio tar artist, participates inprojects of international concerts,
teaches etnikjazz and tar.
