XENOPHANES PRODUCTIONS (Norbert Hinterberger, lyrics, voice, piano, bass and Adelheid Klare, lyrics, drums, bass, cello) is philosophically and epistemologically orientated towards Xenophanes of Miletus (Tales school in ancient Greece).
It is well known that even the pre-Socratics wondered what the famous "thing in itself" could be (link. not just Kant). And there were indeed some interesting answers to this question. Heraclitus, for example, was of the opinion that the element fire must be the thing in itself. And this answer can be considered somewhat accurate if you realise that the stars are actually huge balls of fire (he also wanted to express that the world is a constant BEING ("You can't step into the same river twice") - not an idealistic BEING, as with Plato. Thales thought that the element water had to be the thing in itself. This also seems to fit quite well (and also gives a coherent picture with regard to the processual nature of nature), because from an atomic point of view there are far more hydrogen atoms than atoms of other natural elements.
Xenophanes, however, found it even more interesting that we seem to only ever have uncertain knowledge - although he did concede that we probably already have very interesting knowledge. This is an assumption that we cannot, however, prove logically rigorously for any of our general assertions (much later this meta-logical fact became known as the "Münchhausen trilemma"). It follows that we only have unprovable, link. uncertain, knowledge. And that was his epistemological thing in itself: the unavoidable UNCERTAINTY with regard to all our non-trivial knowledge.
In our music, we now try to depict this indeterministic uncertainty as unpredictability with our odd beats. In other words, the course of our tacts is difficult to predict. This leads to musical surprises, which we call GROOVE ... Have fun with it.
XENOPHANES PRODUCTIONS (Norbert Hinterberger, Lyrics, Voice, Piano, Bass und Adelheid Klare, Lyrics, Drums, Bass, Cello) ist philosophisch bzw. erkenntnistheoretisch an Xenophanes von Milet (Tales-Schule im antiken Griechenland) orientiert.
Bekanntlich haben sich schon die Vorsokratiker gefragt, was wohl das berühmte "Ding an sich" sein könne (also nicht erst Kant). Und es hat in der Tat einige interessante Antworten darauf gegeben. Heraklit war z. B. der Meinung, dass das Element Feuer das Ding an sich sein müsse. Und diese Antwort kann man für einigermaßen treffend halten, wenn man sich klar macht, dass die Sterne ja tatsächlich riesige Feuerbälle sind (er wollte damit außerdem ausdrücken, dass Welt ein ständiges WERDEN ist ("Man kann nicht zweimal in denselben Fluss steigen") - also nicht ein idealistisches SEIN, wie bei Platon. Thales fand, dass das Element Wasser das Ding an sich sein müsse. Auch das scheint ganz gut zu passen (und hinsichtlich der Prozesshaftigkeit der Natur ebenfalls ein stimmiges Bild zu ergeben), denn atomar betrachtet gibt es weit mehr Wasserstoff-Atome als Atome anderer natürlicher Elemente.
Xenophanes fand indessen noch interessanter, dass wir anscheinend immer nur über unsicheres Wissen verfügen - wobei er durchaus einräumte, dass wir vermutlich schon über sehr interessantes Wissen verfügen. Das ist eine Vermutung, die wir allerdings für keine einzige unserer allgemeinen Behauptungen logisch streng beweisen können (sehr viel später wurde dieser meta-logische Sachverhalt als "Münchhausen-Trilemma" bekannt). Daraus folgt, dass wir nur über nicht beweisbares, also unsicheres Wissen verfügen. Und das war sein epistemologisches Ding an sich: Die unvermeidliche UNSICHERHEIT bezüglich all unseres nicht-trivialen Wissens.
Wir versuchen in unserer Musik nun, mit unseren ungeraden Takten diese indeterministische Unsicherheit als Unvorhersagbarheit abzubilden. Anders gesagt der Verlauf unserer Taktierungen ist schwer vorherzusagen. Das führt zu musikalischen Überraschungen, die man GROOVE nennt ... Viel Spass damit.
