Omar Afif-Gnawa Trance Fusion
Omar is originally from Essaouira, on the Moroccan Atlantic coast and is a Gnawa musician, craftsman and chef who is now based in Edinburgh. He plays a Guembri, a three-stringed bass like instrument, and works as a soloist as well as on collaborations creating fusions between Gnawa music, Blues, Afrobeat, Scottish folk and much more.

The band also features Andy Cooke on baladinda & percussion, Ato Williams on drums, Steve Kettley on saxes, Simona Simeone on qraqueb/backing vocals. Compelling instrumental and vocal phrases are created from traditional call and response sources and combined with creation around the repertoire which draws on jazz, reggae and other influence s. This is an addictive rhythmic experience, at once a soul party and a mystical transport to Africa –Gnawa Trance Fusion brings a unique cultural experience to the contemporary and world music scene.
