About to begin.....
Good Morning, everyone!
Just wanted to let you all know that Tuesday afternoon (Yes, New Year's Eve!) I will be going to my first recording session for the new project. I ended up staying with the studio in Flint, as everything local either wasn't in business anymore or was far more expensive. And beyond that first song I wrote (I Love To Sing Your Praises), I have written one more called Blind Faith. Funny how the initial creation of that song began! I was at a house of two of my piano students, awaiting the little brother (6-years-old) to come to his lesson which ended up taking 20 minutes and while I was waiting, I was chatting with his 7-year-old sister and as I was reaching over to their keyboard, I starting playing a couple of chords back and forth and realized that there was "something" there. So, upon arriving home later, I began to expand on those two chords and voila, a song was born! I added lyrics and while it wasn't intentional, the song is totally autobiographical in the moment. It summed up how daunting this project was and is and whether I had what it takes to make the million and one decisions along the way properly. I hadn't written a song in about 12 years until I Love to Sing Your Praises came along and that was pretty much handed to me, as I heard it playing in my head just before awakening one morning. So, writing this 2nd song puts me "back-in-the-saddle-again in my own heart and mind.
This album will include one song written by Prophet Kim Clement and 2 or 3 that ended up being a collaboration of him and myself, even if posthumously. His song, Give Thanks Unto the Lord, may end up being the title track. That is what I am thinking at this point, anyway. Kim was a fantastic pianist and I only heard him play the song played with more complex chords once, but it really stuck with me and we sang in our church that way. It is a very cool song for sure!
So, please keep me in your prayers. I am excited to get back into the studio! It has been about 8 years since the last time I was doing any recording.
Thanks, and God bless!
Phil
