Kemar Thompson Biography

Kemar Thompson, aka Jr. Pinchers, was born in Rock Hall, St. Catherine, Jamaica on October 10, 1982. Kemar’s talents began manifesting themselves while attending kindergarten (basic school), where he performed songs for 50 cents on request. However, these talents needed time to develop and with his mother’s encouragement, Kemar developed them in the church. Sundays were never quite the same if Kemar did not grace the microphone with Roll Away, a Sunday morning favorite.

Kemar left Rock Hall for Queensborough at the age of seven to live with his father, Pinchers (Delroy Thompson), world famous Jamaican reggae artiste known for his hit songs Agony and Bandolero. While growing up in Queensborough, Kemar was always looking for the opportunity to showcase his talents by singing at school concerts and talent showcases. Jr. Pinchers was a contender and then regular performer at the Black Roses Talent Show at Maxfield Avenue. Coincidentally, it was at these hometown events that he truly came into his stage name. Jr. Pinchers was the young artiste who sang Pinchers’, the reggae icon’s, songs as if they were his own with style and flair that had his audience mesmerized by his talent.

Kemar’s teenage years brought more musical exposure and desire to develop his musical talents. Jr. Pinchers began lunch time clashes under the mango tree at Kingsway High School with Tiger’s (Dancehall DJ legend) son. The popularity of these clashes spread to surrounding neighborhoods and these clashes became regular staples in the neighborhood high schools as budding artistes clashed to earn the respect of his fellow students.

Motivated to follow in his father’s footsteps and make his own mark as a reggae artiste, Kemar spent most of his youth watching and learning from reggae recording artistes in Jamaica and spending time with Beres Hammond and Capleton. He ensured his professional musical development by frequenting Pinchers’ studio, Jammys, Scorpio, Cali Bud, Young Bloodz, Tiger Records and other studios in Kingston, Jamaica. It is here he began to craft his own style, write his own songs and was allowed to prove his mastery of the art in Scorpio’s studio when he recorded and released his first single in 1997 called “Blaze Up The Fire.”

In 2007, Kemar selectively released his debut album, “True Story”, released for Royal Concert productions, which produced the hit single,“Unfaithful Lover”, accompanied by a music video. “Unfaithful Lover”. Written by Bernard and Thompson, this single which waqs also on Richie B's chart in JA was the most requested single on Irie FM in early 2007. The video, directed by Rachel Bernard,(founder and CEO of Royal Concert Productions). was requested regularly on local entertainment cable stations Hype TV & RE TV, played in MTV Tempo and has been nominated for awards on YouTube. Jr. Pinchers has worked with reggae musicians Chris Meredith, Llamar Brown, Martin Barnes, Wilburn “Squiddly” Cole, Chinna Smith and world famous, Grammy Award winning duo Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare (Sly & Robbie). He has also recorded singles with Aidonia and Erupt, reggae and dancehall artistes.

Currently, He is working with Royal Concert Productions on a new album, to be released in 2015
