About Ricardo L. Abbott

icardo L. Abbott (born in Lynchburg, Virginia) is an American jazz, gospel, smooth jazz and R&B saxophonist. He currently resides in Washington, D. C. and teaches privately and in Prince George's County Public Schools in Maryland. He also performs nationally and locally with a number of Jazz artists. 
Ricardo was first introduced to the saxophone in elementary school at the age of 11. He began to play in bands in the city. He and their band the Dynatones began opening up for some major artist of the 70's funk era. By 24 he had ascended the music scene with the help of other Virginia artists to play in small jazz clubs and at jam sessions in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Ricardo is a graduate of Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky. He received his Bachelors degree in music and later his Masters in Business. He grew up with Nat Reeves and played in the band "The Dynatones" with Nat. Nat Reeves was the bassist for Kenny Garrett. 
In 1982 Ricardo began performing in major concerts as an opening act with hi college band Calculus II. They were invited to perform in Cleveland, Ohio for one of the hottest groups in the 80's at their club The Dazz Band. Throughout the 80's they opened up for some of the hottest funk bands (Midnight Star, SOS Band, Evelyn Champagne King, The Isley Brothers, Instant Funk and many more. He traveled throughout the country performing in a horn section. 
Upon returning to the DMV he began to teach and became a band leader and solo act. He is currently working on his first cd entitled "Nothing But A Feeling." He has put out one single entitled "Hot Sauce" which can be heard on internet radio Jango, Radio AirPlay and others.  Ricardo continues to perform throughout the DMV area for public and private events.
