Song Reviews
Neyppy Pontenova.

Vintage Vibes and Modern Mastery: Robert Watson's 'The Resistance' Mesmerizes with Jazzy Nostalgia and Creative Flair
"The Resistance" by Robert Watson is a vibrant jazzy recording that transports listeners back in time with its nostalgic 60s Hammond organ. The song's old-school charm is palpable, bringing forth a sense of musical nostalgia. Watson's composition boasts an array of good musical ideas, seamlessly blending different elements to create a cohesive sound. The solo guitar work in this track is particularly impressive, reminiscent of Carlos Santana's soulful and expressive playing style. This touch adds a layer of sophistication and flair to the piece, making it stand out. The mixing of the track is very well done, offering a clear and balanced sound that allows each instrument to shine. One of the standout moments in "The Resistance" is the creative interplay between the organ and guitar&bass towards the end of the song. This musical dialogue adds a delightful and unexpected twist, showcasing Watson's ingenuity and the seamless communication between the instruments. Overall, "The Resistance" is a captivating and creative piece that successfully merges classic jazz elements with a touch of modernity, resulting in a richly textured and enjoyable listening experience.

complicated, syncopated
The Resistance by Robert Watson does not keep you waiting to understand the music. The first note/beat lets the listener know the rhythm track is leading the way but what is the time signature? It’s there; in simple 4/4 time, but the accents are not always on the down beat. At first it seems scattered but then you realize it’s perfectly in time, once you let yourself go with it instead of putting up walls. The Resistance is complicated, syncopated and can only be played with skill. The drums are telling us something, and the other instruments agree. This song sounds the same played backwards or forward. Just kidding about that, but the second time you listen you realize it’s perfectly logical and cool; very cool.
