Roger Baquial Biography

San Diego native Roger Baquial began his musical journey at the tender age of five when, after a church service, he sat down at the piano at home and played a hymn ‘by ear’! His mother was astonished at this natural gift and asked if he would like to take piano lessons. From that day on, Roger found himself immersed in music.

Roger is not a stranger to the music industry. His humble beginnings from classical training to playing with his peers in garage bands brought him to his first well-established band in 1978 called “Eden,” which included Terry Palmer on guitar and Steve Nieves (Kenny Loggins) on sax & vocals.

Having established his talent and professionalism, Roger went on to play with The Heroes, Siers Brothers, and Juice, just to name a few of the talented groups that he has had the privilege to work and tour with over the years. Also, being involved in an original project, Sauvage, Roger has worked with top producers, engineers and musicians in the industry. He has performed at a number of popular showcase venues throughout the country, including sold-out performances at the famed Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles.

During Roger’s musical career he has worked with Brad Kaiser (Rick Derringer), the late Johnny Almond, (Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac), Mark Intrarvia (Eve Selis), Laurie Beebe Lewis (The Buckinghams, The New Mamas & The Papas, Gary Puckett), Don Bogtong Cruz (Black Eyed Peas), Gregg Bissonette (World-renowned drummer, currently touring with Ringo Starr), Goran Rista, drummer (Producer/Songwriter Estefano), and singer/songwriter/performer Edison Riggs. These musicians have continued to record and perform both nationally and internationally.

After working in the secular music industry for many years, Roger felt his musical and personal life slipping away. Due to a sense of lack of fulfillment, he decided to sell all his musical gear and concentrate on his family. A pivotal turning point in music for Roger was when he gave his heart to Christ in 1995. This humble, yet life-altering moment would eventually inspire a new vision and purpose for the creative gift God had endowed in him since that day in that little church when he was five years old.

It wasn’t until many years had passed in Roger’s walk with the Lord that he realized that the gift he possessed from an early age was given to him to glorify God and further His Kingdom. This realization was “nudged along” by a brother in Christ at a home fellowship, who would then bless him with a keyboard setup and tell him, "Now, go and bless people with the gifts God has given you." That statement would resonate with Roger, and from that point on, he never looked back.

Roger eventually found himself serving the Lord by leading worship at home fellowships, churches, outreaches and weddings; but a desire to minister to those that do not know the Lord led Roger to write music from his heart that would reach out to all generations. Creating a music company with his wife Sherri, "Back Yell Music" was formed. Roger started recording, arranging and producing music, culminating in the just-released, original album “Cross The Barrier.” Inspired by Christ, the songs are meant to plant a seed and convict a heart to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Filled with catchy hooks, inspiring lyrics and melodic melodies, "Cross The Barrier" is now available on music sites everywhere!

It is said, “Behind every great man is an amazing woman,” and in this case Roger’s inspiration is Sherri Baquial, his wife and creative lyricist, who co-wrote the music with Roger on their current project. Together the vision and desire to serve the Lord has given them new meaning and purpose to their lives.

Presently, Roger continues to write, record and perform his own music, which expresses his heart for God and provides a positive message of inspiration.
