On a fantastic personal note, I have just been approved for an apartment that I shall be moving into soon! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers while I've been homeless since Januarys Friday the 13th, 2023 and would you believe it I got my acceptance news on Octobers Friday the 13th too!!! So, I definitely think Friday the 13ths are not bad at all!
---------------------------------------------------------
When I stepped out of my apartment with the possessions I could fit inside my suitcases...I had no clue to where I would live, where I would go, what I would find and experience on this brand new journey...never having been evicted or homeless before! All of us had seen the tragic news of so many homeless being hurt, preyed upon or killed during the pandemic. So, although I may have been shaking in my shoes… I put my trust in God. An organization had told me about local shelters to go to, but first I had to take my almost 8-year-old cat Jinx to a shelter to put up for adoption. I rescued Jinx when he was eight weeks old, and now almost 8 years later I had to give up my sweet dear cat who was also my support animal. He became that once my second husband died in 2016. Although it was very hard for me to do, I took my kitty to a no kill shelter, thankfully he was adopted within a week and now lives in a loving home. All warm, fed and cared for.
---------------------------------------------------------
I then showed up at the overnight women's shelter in Denver at Samaritan House. I didn't know what to expect and I was just thankful for warmth, a place to lay my head, some food, which I was too nervous to eat even half of it
---------------------------------------------------------
Luckily, I met a great caseworker at The Gathering Place who helped me sign up to become part of the Samaritan House 7 to 9 month program and I was quickly excepted there. At the same time I also applied for acceptance to a women's ministry home
---------------------------------------------------------
Once I was in the better Samaritan house shelter, I felt much more secure. but at night time it's hard to sleep because even though I felt more secure I felt that I needed to be wakeful because you never knew who was going to try to take things from you or possibly hurt you.
---------------------------------------------------------
In March I was contacted by the women's ministry home and started the process to be excepted there. And April 17 was my first day in a place that was a house, a home. A place that I could go to sleep at night and not have fear of anyone trying to hurt me or take anything from me.
---------------------------------------------------------
in the time from leaving my apartment and walking into this new home, all the things that I feared that could possibly happen to me… Never occurred! No one who tried to hurt me, fight me, argue with me, or attack me in anyway! All the ladies that were beside me in the three different shelters we're experiencing theft of cash, ID, phones, even false teeth! Nothing was ever stolen for me! (Well, except for two lacy bras that were pretty, I hope whoever has them uses them well.)
---------------------------------------------------------
I know it was God, who arranged each landing place, which is what I call each place that gave me shelter, food, a place to rest, a place to be clean, a place to recover healthwise and in many other ways. I trusted Him to take care of me and He did, and I knew that my next landing place would always be better, and it was!
---------------------------------------------------------
Having been in this beautiful home with many other women and their children and the wonderful staff, all sharing their love, their care, and keeping me in their prayers as I also keep them. The Lord led me to help these women, just by being a good listener, and give advice when asked with words the Lord gave me. I was also the donations coordinator and help as a leadership trainee.
---------------------------------------------------------
Now, I will soon be in my next landing place that God Himself has provided. I've been so busy here at this home that the thought of my next landing place was not even on my mind, or even on my radar. So when the apartment complex called, I was totally surprised that I had made the top of their waiting list well before the year that they had told me; and the next day, after my meeting with them being approved!
---------------------------------------------------------
God is very good, He is very good all the time, and He has to me for most of my life! He is good to me when things are bad, and He's good to me when things are good! I completely trust him and I'm so thankful that that trust give me a peace that so many other people do not have.
---------------------------------------------------------
Love Will Be Waiting: the words and music of this song were inspired by my husband's acoustic guitar, playing one day, as soon as I heard the music I had to run inside and get pen and paper and join him on our back porch. I had to write the words as fast as I could, because they are coming so quickly. The song as it is is exactly as I wrote it and I did not have to work at it. At the next band practice, Ed played the song, and I sang it, and the band joined in and created it, and Kelly sang the song with the same notes and melody but with her amazing pipes to be exactly as you hear it on the site.
---------------------------------------------------------
The meaning behind the song: There are many songs sung about soldiers and warriors going to war, but not many about those that love them, and are waiting for their return at home. At the time of this song writing, my youngest brother was in Iraq and Afghanistan and I wanted him and others to know that so many love them and we're waiting, waiting for them to come home. It's not easy to be on the waiting end just like it's not easy being on the fighting end..
---------------------------------------------------------
Miles Yet To Go: The lyrics for Miles Yet To Go came to me one day, and I added it to a stack of papers with other lyrics, lines and song, ideas, and poems that I kept with me and brought with me to each band practice. Rough Innocence was so talented and would start jamming and you could tell when the jam was becoming a song. It would be at that moment that I would dig through my papers, and find something that was meant for this music. Other times I would write as they were doing the song, and it would fit perfectly. Often when writing the lyrics, I would hear music which ended up mostly being the melody of the song and when the music came out that it belonged to, I would get up and sing it. The band would like it and Kelly would take it from there with her voice, but following the melody that I had sung.
---------------------------------------------------------
The meaning behind the song: This song is one of encouragement, although also not knowing what lies ahead of believing that only good things will come. This song almost didn't make it on the album. We had a good 30 songs we had written and we're playing at local clubs and we had a following and everyone loved all of them. We had to gather money enough to go into a studio ourselves, and create an album, but just enough money for an eight song EP. The band had chosen seven songs, and they were having a hard time, deciding what the last song should be. Which kind of tells you about the title of our album "You Decide". The band were going over the songs again and then they came to me and asked what song they thought I would like or should be on the album. My response was, "Miles Yet To Go". soon after we recorded the album, there was a "Battle Of The Bands" contest in 1992 at the York Fairgrounds in York Pennsylvania. We entered the contest, and we were one of three bands to make it to the final show! The Battle Of The Bands was the opening act for the band Kix that night! We got second place with an original lineup, which I think is fantastic, considering the other bands did covers.
---------------------------------------------------------
Dark Eyes: the song Dark Eyes was written lyrics and original musical inspiration by her lead singer Kelly. She brought it to the band and jammed by Rough Innocence taking her music and added its special brand of rock 'n' roll to it. Similar to what we would do with cover songs, we would "Rough Innocize It"! Cover tunes became harder, more powerful than the original versions and were equally asked for as well as our own original songs!
---------------------------------------------------------
The meaning behind the song: Dark Eyes we think it's pretty self-explanatory. If you listen to the story in the lyrics, you get exactly what it's all about. And as I didn't write it personally it's kind of hard for me to tell you more than that.
---------------------------------------------------------
Our Album: Haunted Nights, followed by Dark Eyes were the first two songs on the album. They really go together, even though written by two different women who were in sync with each other and still are to this day. Kelly was my sister-in-law, but I always consider her my sister even though her brother, and I have parted ways. We often could finish each other's thoughts, and you didn't want to play Pictionary against us. LOL So, although the songs were from two different writers, it didn't sound that way.
---------------------------------------------------------
and my next newsletter to you, I'll pick three more songs to explain how they were created and what the meaning was behind the song. Please let me know if you like this. It's kind of like getting liner notes without the album cover.
---------------------------------------------------------
As a result of placing second, a local music magazine critiqued our album in their next issue. "While we love the album, we don't understand why the last song is on this album. We think it is too commercial!" LOL which translates into we could've gone somewhere on it and it would've been popular. We were only a band for about another year and our lead singer left, and is now doing Christian music. We tried other singers and no one could match Kelly's magical voice. So the band broke up... but due to the site and many of our fans following when we were performing, we're asking to be able to have access to our songs. So that is why I created this memorial site on Number 1 Music. And as I've been able to see it has all of you have confirmed. Our music is still got its own special kind of magic, and is reaching out to all of you.!
---------------------------------------------------------
Hoping each and everyone of you, your families and friends are well and Y'all take care! Keep warm while things get colder!
---------------------------------------------------------
Wishing everyone Love, Peace and Blessings & Always Keep On Rockin'!
