Let’s be clear: a record signed by a bassist-leader often resembles other releases recorded by bassist-leaders, a heavy revenge on the status of accompanist; spotlight on the bassist, all the themes are for me, the first chorus and codas. Therefore, this second album by Sal La Rocca deftly avoids that trap. With the exception of “Crescent”, all the compositions are signed La Rocca but the rest is impeccably balanced and each musician comes out of the adventure with something to remember. I love this track! The Avant-garde, improvised Jazz style, saxophone, bass, trumpet and piano all take my spirit away. I am collaborating with a young, improvised jazz band to produce work based on my epic poem Butoh and classical dance performance with the Fonteyn Academy in the USA for a film and stage performance. My affinity with jazz is established. I feel like I am sitting in Ronnie Scott's club with a large brandy and enjoying the vibes on this kind of Jazz. The sound is comfortable and so well blended. This piece has pretty much got everything happening for a modern jazz instrumental, tricky time signatures and changes get you drawn in then the blend of tonal and atonal runs, the tempo shifts the gorgeous tone trumbone sax and bass , altogether I'm luvin this ! As a rock'n'blues musician , jazz is my guilty pleasure , this tune sure scratches that itch; Bravo Sal !

This is a great arrangement & a great band. Reminds me of MBase or Ralph Peterson's band. acoustic. Haven't heard something so real in a longg time. Highly recommened, especially for the post bop folk! Bravo.

The world needs more jazz to remind us of that freedom of flying with music. The energy of the band is great, a constant moving flow with grace and lightness. Very optimistic view from the top.

This tune took me back. I was sitting in a dim lit corner as the band took the stage. As I sipped my apple martini... I was wowed! I mean every instrument showed up and showed out! Exactly what I need int those desperate times. Something to raise my soul. Sax is incredible, and drum too, and... bass too, and... everything in fact. This music makes me think about the beauty of the natural wilderness of the human nature. Something soft and strong. Not easy to approach nor to understand at first sight (here first listen), but very inspiring, comforting and enlightening. It's not se often you can find such things in just one track. I really recommend you to listen to Sal La Rocca and his partners. I really thank you Sal for sharing this tasty music. Best regards

terrific jazz played by terrific musicians. Fantastic and exciting piano, bass, drums line. You fly on this and the sax theme above it fits in so coherently. Harmonically and melodically also a treat, and together with the rhythm simply world class. The sax and trombone improvisations are played so well and musically that I want to hear the piece again and again. To top it off, there is a short drum compression over the great piano line at the end. Congratulations to the great musicians! I am thrilled and I am sure many others are as well! I've always loved Jazz and this just proves why, beautiful instruments and the sounds blend very nicely together, I feel like I'm listening to it live, keep it up I'd love to see this live one day

Sal La Rocca is one of very few artists to have been offering straight-ahead jazz. Yes, what you can expect from him is always very cool and very good ones. JOKER has tastes, for me like a sip of single malt whisky. Dry, nothing sweet, somewhat stoic, but deep in flavour. This is jazz.

You are not going to tell me that this is not being streamed elsewhere. This is jazz, man. Forgot I was actually listening on n1m. Im hearing film scores thru and thru. This is six minutes of jazz excellence, but I am intrigued by the title tho. What gives?

Great to hear Sal La Rocca's music again. We get so busy with our lives, now in this covid world, isolationism has taken on a new meaning and a new vibe. The music starts out with an easy upbeat sort of like the early Roy Haynes sound, but then Groover Washington came to mind, and repeating phrase creates a nice gesturing rhythm for a modern dance trio, a laid back summer day at the beach listening to a Jazz pod. Not a jazz listen at the best of times, as an indigenous songwriter, my music comes from my people, their stories, here the music is a mixture of changing times, feelings of change in a changing world, finding a new routine, pattern in a pandemic world. Music of a quiet time looking at a painting away from the crowds. Measures are journeys of eight notes held up by a solid bases undertone and piano mid range pattering which holds it all together.
