Without these musicians, much of my music would have never been possible.
Starting with my friend and musical genius: Al Teman… Destined for super stardom. Absolutely one of the best and most creative guitarist/musician/singers to ever pick up a guitar. Infuriating at times, yet he is one of my best friends and top 3 favorite guitarists to have ever picked up a guitar. Al is currently playing and singing with Leslie Knauer in the band Precious Metal. Leslie is one of the top 50 women vocalists of all time. Al with Leslie are the co-founding members of the band ’Sunset Junction'! Google Al Teman. Al has performed or recorded with some of the greatest musicians on the planet. From Duff McKagan of Guns and Roses to Rick Springfield (Jesses Girl). Take a little trip with his history. Al has two younger brothers both wildly genius musicians and creative artists whom I’ve had the pleasure to perform and record with many times over the last 30 years. Howard Teman the middle child, genius in every sense of the word. Whether he is tattooing at his world famous T-Man Tattoo studio in Studio City, or recording keyboards on a Guns and Roses album, you know he is excelling at both. Total creative genius. Eric Teman bassist, song writing mega talent, vocalist and the baby wonderkind of Thee Apes and the Teman brothers. Without his genius contributions and his ability to balance the egos of his eldest brother and I: my undying respect and loyalty will always be something Eric can depend on. Can't say enough about the genius that is Eric Teman. Google Eric Teman. Search for his song 'Lady', written in loving memory of his Mother Sheila. A magnificent tribute. This original conglomeration, known as Sam Mann and Thee Apes was and is a most vital part of my musical journey. Without this part of my musical past, you would not be reading the following!
"As we grow as musicians so goes the growth of one's musical community." The band Sam Mann and Thee Apes was and still is a musical community of dedicated players recognized all over the world for their musical abilities and creative talents. Sam Mann and Thee Apes many former members are currently playing in or have played in, at least 100+ bands. Recorded on thousands of studio sessions. Myself, Sam Mann, has been in 10 different bands since Sam Mann and Thee Apes.
Let's look at drummer Greg Ginsburg. Hard to miss. He stands 6 feet 10 inches. He is a dynamo. Having played and recorded with Sam Mann and Thee Apes. He also recorded the drums for my band ‘Wild Frontier’ CD. He is a fantastically nice guy who is now playing in at least 4 bands concurrently. Drummie, as myself and some of his special fans call him, will always be in demand. Even at 6'10' there will never be enough of him to go around. Google Greg Ginsburg.
Let me introduce you, although you may already know him: Michael Stone.. Bass player, Bass fisherman, musician vocalist, an absolute force of nature. One of the most sought after Bassists working today. Currently playing in so many great bands, such as. 'Kraterface' an awesome to the bone Rock band. Currently playing with Wuhan Clan of which he is a founding member. The G'Moneys one of the best party rock bands of our time. There are more! 'The Stoneman', 'Stone', 'Stoney', fellow Dog Lover, Master Of Ceremonies, New England Patriot, Officiate, Loved by many, Ignored by none. Former member of 21 Psyche, (expired link). and bassist background singer in my band Wild Frontier where he dominated on the recording of our CD. Performed and recorded with so many amazing musicians Bruce Bouillet comes to mind immediately. With the creative and endless positive energy provided by Stone, I’m a better musician and grateful. One day during a recording session, I heard Stone playing a great bass riff. I yelled out, 'Stone, is that yours? Stone said yep. I said, don't forget that. Thus the foundation for the great song, 'The Sun Comes Up'. Can you dig it! Without Stone, I would have never met the genius that is Tim Rossi! Fuck, are you kidding me? Guitar ability that has earned him the name, 'The Freak'. Along with Stone, Tim was responsible for the electric guitar playing and backing vocals on the CD from ‘Wild Frontier'. Without his creative input, endless ability, and virtuosic ability, I can't imagine you reading this right now. Such an amazing musician. Also a former member of 21 Psyche, The Broke Americans, (expired link). and many more! Tim (The Freak) Rossi is a 'Guitar God' in every sense of the words. Currently 'The Freak' is thee Guitar player in the great band 'Blackfoot'. 'Chicken pickn, symphonic, rock guitar playin' Freak Of Nature, that is Tim Rossi'. Google Tim Rossi.
This music conglomerate has no boundaries when it comes to musical genius.
Pharaoh Barrett 'The Pharaoh', 'Pharaoh'…. One of my favorite musicians ever. "No limit to the abilities he possesses".. that is the summary of the genius that is Pharaoh! Pharaoh contributed many of the backing vocals on the CD from ‘Wild Frontier'. Just being near him will make you work harder and be a better musician. No matter the creative environment you are in if Pharaoh is involved you will be more alive and creative. Formerly the bassist for The Four Horsemen. Currently the lead singer, guitar player, writer for Kraterface. He is also currently the Bassist/backing vocalist and song contributor for the band Little Caesar. Anyone who has had the pleasure to play and get to know him owes him a debt for his ability to push you creatively!
Also playing bass and singing in one of the formations of Sam Mann and Thee Apes, Michael Farrell formerly with the singer 'Tiffany'. The band 'Scarlet' and co-conspirator with the amazing singer/guitar player Matt Avery. Google them. Another amazing talent and former member of Sam Mann and Thee Apes is the amazing guitar player singer/writer, Leroy Miller. His many solo albums starting with the CD ‘LEROY’ will introduce you to other music by him, all of it (expired link) him. My band BAD MOUTH featured the Bass playing and backing vocals of Krys Baratto. He is a much sought after power house player and downright nice guy. Very funny to. He can be heard on the very difficult to find BAD MOUTH CD. He also was a touring bassist and backing vocalist in the band GREAT WHITE and CC Devilles Samantha 7. He is currently a founding member bassist/vocalist writer for the band The Godfathers. Drummer extraordinaire, guaranteed to push you musically is Andre LaBelle. Drummer for the former KISS guitarist Vinny Vincent and now he is a much sought after session/live drummer and also a drum/musician educator. Andre performed live with my bands on many very cool occasions. I did short stints with bands M-80 featuring Don Costa. Briefly in the band Thunder from Rocshire Records I had the opportunity to record using the Record Plants mobile studio(yes the same mobile studio mentioned on Deep Purple(s) ’SMOKE ON THE WATER’) under the production and engineering of Eddie Kramer (The Beatles,ZEP,Hendrix,Bolin,Clapton, the Kinks, KISS, Bowie, etc etc ) 2 days into that project The feds swooped in to Rocshire’s offices, confiscating everything that wasn’t nailed down. The artists on that label lost everything – their master tapes, their recording equipment, etc. I would have lost all my equipment in that sweep by the feds but I fortunately had a gig later that same evening after the recording session, so I had taken all my equipment with me. To any musician I performed with and left out of this little note about my music life, I thank you and will get you next time around. Just a small tidbit of the music life I’ve had. Thank you to the original Music Man, Robert Preston. His choreographer Onna White who also taught some of Hollywoods biggest stars such as Lucille Ball to dance, Herb Alpert who infused me with 'A Taste Of Honey’ and so many musicians who propelled me to a life where I proudly state “MUSIC ABOVE ALL ELSE”.
