Lyrics:
"The Floor is Yours Now"
Verse 1
Factory girl Milly Jean sits on an assembly line, on the shop floor,
snipers take aim on this dead-end street and back-stabbers stir.
She says she's leavin' but never does, only time is on her side,
she gets that sinkin' feelin' inside, when she hears them whisper.
Verse 2
Milly's life-events a fragile daisy-chain, no-one’s on her wavelength,
work apron hidin' her psychedelic mini dress-code violation.
On her final warnin' to up her game, her dreamin' holdin' up production,
piece-work packin' breakin' her nails, clock-watchin' her only dedication.
Chorus
She hasn't the time but she has the motion,
swayin' her body in a sequin dress.
Flashbulbs blindin' but she wasn't mindin',
she's real-life lit-up, stop the press.
Post-chorus
The floor is yours now Milly Jean.
Verse 3
She'll be a fashion model one day with an eclectic wardrobe to draw from,
outfits and props arrivin' in a suitcase that's bigger than she is.
But she's in a void at the conveyor belt and she's crossing the thread,
lofty thoughts headin' for a fall on her long road to showbiz.
Chorus
Post-chorus
Bridge
Punch the clock and kiss another day goodbye, the daisy-chain is broken.
You need to stop and think, you’re only as strong as your missing link.
The job does not define who you are, but you need self-belief when you are a star,
so come on Milly Jean the floor is yours now, toe the line and raise the bar.
Instrumental
Verse 4 / Outro
Milly Jean made a mate today and it turns out she's not so different,
and it's a weight off her tiny shoulders to finally realise that.
She's out with the girls goin’ down to the pub as it is a payday,
and she fits-in with all of them with plenty of chit chat.
Chorus
Post-chorus
--End--
Thank for reading & listening! :-)
All the Best,
Sean & Jim
