About SFD - Searching For Daybreak
Formed in 2003 under their original name Six Feet Deep, the original line-up consisted of vocalist and guitarist Brad Black, bassist Kevin Gowin and drummer Brian Smyth. SFD went on to see their music go worldwide in radio, television and film. Songs Cold Hearted Misery and Little Girl charted on both terrestrial and Internet radio and continue to reach new audiences more than a decade later. The band was also nominated for a MARTY award in 2009. After their second release “So Far Down” in 2006, the band, with drummer Niall Mellors, and later Steven Scott, toured extensively in Ontario as well as the (expired link). Midwest and (expired link). East Coast up until their break up in 2010. The band toured both as support to major acts such as Default, Kix and Mariana’s Trench and also as a headliner, breaking many attendance records and attracting interest from numerous labels. The band reformed in late 2015 with Brad Black as the only original and founding member, along with bassist Les Wheeler and the return of drummer Steven Scott. Since reforming, the band has performed live with platinum selling artists Lynch Mob, Autograph and Lee Aaron and they co-headlined dates with Grammy nominated MTV artist Leaving Eden from Boston. In 2017, Garrett Alto joined the band as the new vocalist, and shortly thereafter Kane Scott assumed the bass duties. With a new attitude, heavier sound and a revamped line-up, the band decided to change its name to Searching For Daybreak. SFD released their new single and video "Satisfy" in April of 2018 and will share the stage with Anvil for two dates in June. If you are a fan of bands such as Godsmack or Disturbed then you will dig SFD’s hard driving rock. Perhaps the best description of the band comes from photographer Jeff Chisamore in his recent online review: “SFD will reach into the pit of your soul and make you realize how hard you should fight - With their songs”.
Explosive lyrics and solid musical backings lead the charge for Toronto based trio, SFD. These three musicians have come together and are taking over their territories with awesome tracks such as Little Girl and Cold Hearted Misery. Hard work and determination are what...”

“That was a great set at The Horseshoe yesterday. Nice to see a Toronto band keeping the rock flame burning. Lots of high-energy rock power, shades of some of the greats, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sabbath. Keep to your musical vision and rock on... ”

“SFD's 1st (expired link). performance set the bar for every band last night INCLUDING KIX. They may have started the show, Kix may have ended it, but no matter who was on stage, the band, and everyone with them, no matter where they were in the venue, were constantly being questioned about the 5W's...”

I heard them talking to a group as I walked up to the Rockpile. "We decided to call ourselves 'Six Feet Deep' because we should all be dead by now. So you know, SFD." My first thought was just how cool it sounds. Yet they were anything but dead when they hit the stage. There was a huge crowd gathered at the Rockpile that night - and they were there to see all the starting bands before the Metal Queen took the stage.
SFD has been formed together since 2006 and is one of the most recognized indie rock/metal groups to hit the scene. They have a whole list of credits under them and it's far from whimsical when they hit the stage. Dark, hard and loud is what you should expect to hear. They deliver. There's only three band members, but they're most like six with as hard as they sound. It was really complex to hear some of their songs, and quite frankly I'm jealous of all the hair.
SFD will reach into the pit of your soul and make you realize how hard you should fight - with their songs!
An incredible original band with a unique and rocking sound.
As a side note, watch the drummer closely when you see these guys. He totally rips the sticks!!!
