Here’s our review from the edge of the wedge:
It’s a typical cold, dark rainy January evening as the music begins at the edge of the wedge but that won’t stop the opening act Shaun Shears from making some strong energy from the stage. Shaun’s unique performance consists of himself on vocals and samples which he controls from his I pad as well as his guitarist and backing singer Tim. His music moves brilliantly between genres songs such as On Life have a great post Punk feel while others can range to almost soft ballads. His song Sample Man is a strong part of the set with hilarious lyrics, a great mix of Indian beats as well as his guitarist Tim playing an almost bangra style guitar line bringing the song together. Shaun certainly loves communicating with the audience telling the small butappreciative crowd straight away he’s from Southampton asking for chorus shout backs as well as telling a brilliant story about the creation of his song Wheelchair Sex which is almost punk spoken word with a nice heavy guitar solo added. As his set ends I honestly say Shaun Shears is one of the most interesting acts I’ve seen for a long time.
