About Sheepherder records

Sheepherder Records is a collective of artists and musicians who like to play musical chairs. The main rule is always if we aren't having fun we are taking ourselves too seriously. There are a number of artists, bands, singers, and musicians who have graced Sheepherder Records with their brilliance. We like to approach the studio like a stage, where the happening gets caught on live recording. This means not a lot of editing or retakes, just making it happen. While we have played with more conventional recording methods, it gets down right tedious, boring, stressful, and predictable to be that structured and organized while trying to create something spontaneous. The musicians approach the studio like an instrument, there is no division between artist and producer. The challenge of having to rise to whatever occasion and meet it accordingly is the adventure. You just never quite know what will happen, and that is a large part of the fun. I am also a solo artist and producer, simply because I cannot stop making music and learning a little more every time. Sheepherder believes in creativity over highly polished production. We want you to feel the room, like you were there with us. Pretty soon robots will be making music better than we can. Until then we will be showing the robots how it's really done as we attain our Freedom From the Robot.
