FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEWPORT, KY - NOVEMBER 2016 - Recorded in the fall of 2006 and subsequently shelved, The Minni-Thins dark and biting sophomore album, “That Old Kentucky Blackgrass,” has been remastered for a 2016 release on Thanksgiving Day; Thursday, November 24th. The album plays like a genre-bending and introspective horror film soundtrack, taking listeners on a journey to a personal apocalypse on an infectious wave of heavy blues, punk, country, psychedelia, and stoner metal, while loosely telling the story of a sentient infection which spreads a dance craze as end times approach. With such a genre defying collection of songs on one album, The Minnis created their own genre, Blackgrass, to classify their sound. The release will be available exclusively through Bandcamp and is currently available for pre-order.
A series of interconnecting music videos were also produced to celebrate the album’s release, marrying the Blackgrass tunes to footage from Nosferatu, the 1922 silent horror masterpiece by FW Muranau. The individual music videos are available on Youtube, as is a truncated version of the film, produced from the complete set of videos, featuring additional Nosferatu footage and original score.
About The Minni-Thins:
Propelled by frenetic old school punk rock energy and Jeremy Strickland’s ferocious screaming, The Minni-Thins emerged from the fertile soil of Cincinnati’s music scene in 2001, releasing their award winning first album “In Black Cause I Asked” to international praise in 2005. The band played one US tour as well as SXSW that same year in support of the album. Marriages, new jobs, and other lame grown-up stuff dismantled the band soon after the second album was recorded.

It's been a while, yo. How've you been? Things here are swell. I'm working a few cool projects, so I thought I'd share a few tracks. One almost got blocked by the NM1 censors, one is a remix, and one is a symphonic soundtrack piece. Let me know what you think.

Hey all,
Valentine's Day is a commercial racket designed to convince you that love can be equated to material goods. I kind of like it, though. It's fun to give tokens of your love and appreciation. They don't have to be expensive. For example, to show you how much I love you, I've uploaded three new songs. First, there's "Practically Permanent," a demented symphonic stream of consciousness inspired in part by Tom Waits and a swarm of thousands birds I once witnessed up close and personal. Next up is "From Salt," a groovy key-heavy rocker about a break-up, but you might not have known that if I didn't tell you; it plays the meaning pretty close to the chest. Finally, there's the eponymous "Shiny RedNothing," a boastful hip hop track fueled by psilocybin. Yes, you read that right: Hip hop.
All three tracks are from the Handmade Shelter album, which I've been working on for way too long now.
I hope you enjoy them. When listening, consider the following:
Yamaoka Tesshu, as a young student of Zen, visited one master after another. He called upon Dokuon of Shokoku.
Desiring to show his attainment, he said: "The mind, Buddha, and sentient beings, after all, do not exist. The true nature of phenomena is emptiness. There is no relaization, no delusion, no sage, no mediocrity. There is no giving and nothing to be received."
Dokuon, who was smoking quietly, said nothing. Suddenly he whacked Yamaoka with his bamboo pipe. This made the youth quite angry.
"If nothing exists," inquired Dokuon, "where did this anger come from?"

Greetings from the frozen shores of Lake Michigan! Hope your New Year is off to a wonderful start. I'm running things clean-slate-style round here. Everything I do, be it music, art, writing, acting, etc..., etc... I release under the umbrella of Shiny Red Nothing. I'm a passionate and eclectic guy, so who knows what bright and shiny idea may take me out into the field of two story q-tip sculpture or shetland pony sound hip hop breakbeats. Anyways, I digress. I really appreciate that you all took the time to lend your ears to my compulsion to make stuff, and I hope you're enjoying it. And sharing it, because art is for sharing, right?

Jeremy Strickland is now, always was, and always will be Shiny Red Nothing. Born of woman and guitar on a hilltop in Kentucky, originally Florida, Strickland was the founder and driving force of the band the Minni-Thins, who played many a music festival, large and small, and won awards that you’ve never heard of. Strickland’s latest project, the arts and music collective Shiny Red Nothing, is 85% Jeremy and 15% (or so, it doesn’t lend itself well to percentages) a group of collaborators. “Everyone’s in the band, even if they don’t know it yet,” says Strickland.
