About Shonda English

Boston native, Shonda English, is a multi-gifted spiritually-grounded force to reckon with, now residing in the state of South Carolina. With the ability to compose traditional music to satisfy the most conservative church-goers then blend gospel music with an urban twist to make the young generation get their praise on, she is highly sought after as a songwriter, arranger and producer!

As the music director at Greater St. Paul Non-Denominational Church, founded by her father, the late Bishop W. T. English, she infuses high energy with thought-provoking lyrical messages in her music ministry; two elements that are found on every stage she graces. Such stages privileged with her presence incude the Annual Music Heritage and Jazz Festival in New Orleans, the Bobby Jones Gospel Show, Shirley Caesar's annual "Wilt Thou Be Made Whole" conference, Dorothy Norwood's CD release dinner where she served as Mistress of Ceremony, the Malaco Records Artist Retreat, and many others. Each year, in continuation of her father's tradition, she also hosts "Gospel In the Park" at the Bishop W. T. English Memorial Park in Sumter, SC. This event boasts some of gospel music BIGGEST and BRIGHTEST stars.

Additionally, before the passing of the Albertina Walker, Shonda paid tribute to the Queen of Gospel in concert, after which, the Queen gave Shonda her blessings and stated "As long as you're doing what you're doing, my music will live on." In comparison, Shonda also feels the same humbling gratitude with her years of performing with the late, great Margaret Allison of the Angelic Gospel singers. For over 20 years, Shonda has shared the stage with Allison, singing alto and playing keys with the Angelic Gospel Singers each year from 1996 until the year of Allison's passing at the annual Gospel In the Park . Most recently, Shonda was given the HONOR of witnessing gospel legend, Dorothy Norwood, record one of her songs, "Blessing In Your Pressing" at Reids Temple AME in Glenn Dale, Maryland on September 25, 2013. Since that time, a wonderful friendship developed and collaborations were created.

Currently, Shonda is gearing up to release her 2nd solo project, "Travelin", which is scheduled to be released this Spring. She is dedicating this entire project to her father, Bishop W. T. English, who passed away on August 20, 2013. Being a "Daddy's Girl", she has struggled with getting back to work, but she knows that her father would have it no other way. In anticipation of the new project, Shonda reminds you to pick up her latest single, "There Wouldn't Be A Me" which is available on all the digital music stores.
