Shyloh Musiq is an emerging Hip-hop artist and producer from North Carolina. The multi-talented rapper and beatmaker made his professional solo recording debut on August 2, 2021 with the three song EP “The AfterGlow.” The record introduces a producer and songwriter who is not afraid to experiment with sounds and styles from the histories of both Pop and Hip-hop music from across the decades.
“The AfterGlow” opens with the experimental downtempo Hip-hop track “Clearly Now.” The song mixes 80’s Synthwave sounds and Pop hooks with a modern lo-fi Indie Rock aesthetic. The avant-garde beat continues through the track as Shyloh alternates between soulful R&B and freestyle rap. He and the music rise and fall together from the mellow, melodic chorus to the more chaotic rap segments.“Open Eyez” follows once again mixing retro beats and modern sounds. Through creative use of vocal harmonies and effects Shyloh tells an emotional broken hearted tale of lost love and lessons learned too late. The EP closes on the chilled out spacey vibes of “Pass Da Starz.” Psychedelic effects and a Trap beat drive this trippy track into the aether as Musiq delivers an equally metaphysical melodic rap.
