about
The Affinity Oeuvre is the 4th Aethellis release and features a collection of instrumentals and songs with lyrics that reflect the challenges people have faced in the past few years. The music styles are eclectic as well, ranging from prog-rock to new wave to pop to jazz fusion; the diversity being representative of the diverse situations people have experienced recently. The latest Aethellis release differs from the previous three as the spotlight is on guitarist/vocalist Mark Van Natta, both compositionally and vocally. Ellsworth Hall and Erik Marks still contributed to the album, however, adding their signature composition styles.

Wonderful, beautiful, densely layered music. I'm glad I gave this album several headphone listens before commenting. It did not immediately strike a chord with me, but the more I listened the more I began to understand and appreciate how fantastically rich and deep the sound is. For fans of atmospheric and melodic prog, this is an excellent addition. Bass and drum work are exquisite!

Canadians from Ontario have had a great position on the map of progressive rock for a long time now. My opinion is that the latest albums add something new, fantastic to their achievements and shed a stream of new light on the music of Monarch Trail. Favorite track - "Megalopolitana" of course, but for fans of this music who are not yet familiar with it I recommend "Echo" as a starter.

It's all a matter of taste. I love this album. I love it's serenity, the beautiful instrumentation, orchestration and the great production. Ambient is not my cup of tea either, but this album crosses the borders of ambient music and prog. In other words: an awesome album!
