SoulaRay (born Raymond Shihawu on 1st January) is a South African fine artist, composer, songwriter and record executive and a respected hip hop scholar from South Africa. From a young age, SoulaRay had a love for the arts. His mixed race heritage combined with a love for Jazz, Rock,Pop, Soul, Funk, Rhythm and BlueS, Disco, Post-disco, Dance-pop, New Jack Swing, Symphony, EDM, Gospel, Kwaito, Amapiano and Rap make his sound quite unique.
SoulaRay studied Fine Arts at Wits University in Johannesburg. He began drawing at the age of six and won several awards including the Totem Award at the 2016 Council Chambers Totem Sculpture Design Competition in Johannesburg and credits The RZA and Ye as some of the many artists that have inspired his artistry.
