We're Southern Silk Duo, a hubby/wife wife indie music team. We love people and perform most styles of music. We don't limit the music as long as it's good and people want to hear it. We're Southern Silk Duo.

The 2 of us perform "live" music with vocals and kick butt guitar. We are professional, mature, sober and serious about our music and career.
We're open to all positive people and situations while maintaining excellence as our standard.
It is our privilege and a gift to have the ability to relate to people and to love. We are truly grateful.

We supply our own sound equipment, if needed, and will provide excellent references.
We're diversified and perform all styles of music, but R&B is our main forte. Flavors of jazz, contemporary, soul, old school, country, Motown, comedy and anything in between, as long as it's good, and it's what people want. We never limit the music or ourselves. We adjust the energy of the venue or for the occasion of performance.
From the softness of accompanying dinner or brunch, to the wild after rock concert crowd, we relate to the people. Guest requests are usually welcome.
Sometimes we surprise people with our sound, because there are only 2 of us. We're a husband/wife team. Our audience response is wonderful.

We've successfully performed from the city sidewalks of Charlotte, (expired link). to becoming regulars at the Biltmore House & Estate in Asheville, (expired link).

Introducing: SOUTHERN SILK DUO

Southern Silk is a husband-and-wife duo whose interpretive jazz and contemporary pop music offers a memorable musical journey through the smooth sounds of favorite songs and performers. Tony Kemp likes to cover such balladeers as Nat King Cole, James Taylor, George Benson, Stevie Wonder, and Elvis Presley while Joanne’s voice can recall the silky, sultry voices of Diana Washington, Billie Holiday, Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, and Gladys Knight.

Through live performances and recordings, they reach a broad fan base
with audiences ranging over every ethnic and racial background. “Babies
to eighty five years old are the core of our audience,”
says Joann, “but younger people still get happy and dance!” The pair
has proved through years of performing that “music should make you feel
good, want to dance, want to love, want to relax, and enjoy some
awesome entertainment”. This is an obvious fact.

Southern Silk Duo has performed for Ballantyne Resorts, Spirit
Square, the Sylva Theater, Vincenzos Restaurant, and many other venues.

Southern Silk Duo, Tony and Joann Kemp, have captured the essence of
the song. Southern Silk has been performing together professionally
for nearly two decades. Their understanding of song, their
deliverance, and their versatility is amazing. Since the loss of
Luther Vandross in June of 2005 there has been a gaping hole in the
smooth & silky sounds of R&B. Until Now!

Live Performances:
In Charlotte, (expired link), Southern Silk has had the pleasure of opening for
Dennis Edwards, Al Stewart, The Uppity Blues Women and other major
acts. Performed at The Sylvia Theater, Spirit Square and the Belk
Theater. Regular performances at Ballantyne Resort, Currents Rest. and
the North Harbor Club, and performed regularly at functions for the
Volunteer Police Dept. Private parties for several dignitaries like
Alex English and the Mayor of Charlotte, and worked with the Charlotte
Center City Partners.
Southern Silk performed at several venues in Asheville, including the
Biltmore Estate, The Asheville Arts Alliance functions, The Gateway
Club, and church. Gifted enough to love and perform all styles of
music.

Studio Work:
Tony and Joann Kemp have been studio musicians for many years. Their
voices blend perfectly and their harmonies are amazing. Collectively
they have performed studio work for the companies “You Sing the Hits”
and “Sound Source”, two of the largest Karaoke music producers in the
industry. Tony’s silky smooth vocals have be used to replicate the
sounds of Luther Vandross, Boys to Men, James Ingram, Teddy
Pendergrass and Lou Rawls. In addition, Joanne has an amazingly
sultry voice, and has done studio work and shared in winning several ADDY awards.
Truly Creative, Artistic Talent. 2 people with a phenomenal presence.
Southern Silk also has tremendous songwriting gifts that you will
experience on three original sound tracks on their CD, which is a
sampling of their artistic abilities (songs 4, 5, & 6). The first
three songs are remakes that are audience favorites at their live
performances.

Summary:
Southern Silk is a duo that is positioned to explode on the awaiting
and reawakening music market to recapture the essence of silky soul
that was almost forgotten. It has now returned.
