This sound is probably inspired by endless disaster movies. We used to do these "sound track" kind of songs some of which might be sort of dance-able ( is that a word? ) We did a whole album/playlist of this sort of sample based stuff, most of it based around the drum stylings of one "Rudy Mantis"

This jam is from 2009- 2010 just after we had a fire next door and the gallery almost burned to the ground. The music then was sample based, literally walking around and recording things around town. The more "pop" elements, like beats, keyboards and guitars were added later., It ended up being an interesting sound, sort of like a dystopian soundtrack.

So I went and remixed Mutant Armies of the World because it was probably the best jam night. I think it ended up sounding a little drunkenly "Pink Floydisch.." I also put it up for sale on bandcamp which would make this the very first dollar Starhaus has ever made...

So since it's Friday, I figured it might be nice to upload a recording we did of Working Class Hero, for an outdoor music festival that Starhaus played here in Toronto a few years ago. You can't argue with a Beatle, I loved this song when I was growing up.

Both the song and the video were created in a similar fashion. The video is of a painting where I took a picture of "the progress" everyday, with some exceptions for closeups. The music was created a long time ago, originally on a 4 track Tascam tape machine, in the original Starhaus experimental basement. The magnetic tape had degraded so we jammed around the sounds which we were able to clean up. you are hearing the strange result, I think I could call this forensic recording... really a cool idea.

So in our neighborhood in Toronto we have this one day concert called "Open Tuning" where people just perform on porches and on the street. "I loved California" was recorded on a friends front patio in 2014 and I had the good sense to record the jam which i think turned out pretty spectacular, all things considered.
