About STEPHANSONG

A marriage of dark-humored lyrics about love, life & loss with imaginative & haunting melodies, the music ranges from power-pop anthems to disjointed, kick-ass rock songs. My songs reflect my life experience — uprooted from France at the age of ten to life on an Indian reservation in the North Coast of California. The constant battle during my youth for non-conformity in a small town taught me to uphold my individuality into adulthood. Living as an artist and musician has made that possible to express myself without judgment.

My perspective of life in the United States, as opposed to that of my experiences in France, also adds a unique element to my songwriting.

I compose most songs on the bass, which again brings a distinct sound. My lyrics reflect what I read, live and feel. I try to create an environment within the music so listeners will open up their minds as well as their souls.

I was part of a movement called the Gilman scene and toured with bands such as Green Day while signed to Lookout Records with Sister Placebo.

In the past few years, I've played and recorded songs that I wrote through Stephansong, a three-piece post-punk band of Humboldt County musicians.

Today, I see stephansong as a harmonious and lyrical narrative of my inner and outer self.
