I just wanted to say thanks so much to all of you that have stopped by and subscribed. It warms my heart to see people enjoy something that means so much to me. I have tried for most of my adult life to create music that can stand the test of time and the test of people like you that know what good music should sound like. it starts with an idea in my head and ends up being played live and then to the recording process that can be nerve racking at times but is still a great, fun, part of the process.
It humbles me to see the number of folks that have stopped by. Thank you and I send my well wishes to each and everyone of you everywhere you are. Please feel free to write back any time to touch base or just say hi. I've tried to upload the latest song, OUR LOVE REMAINS but have a bit of a time with it.

Hello wonderful souls who have crossed my musical path. I hope you're feeling good about yourself and have plenty of love to make you feel whole. It's been a while since I have written anything here, been a little busy gigging and getting married. THAT'S RIGHT brothers and sisters, there is a Mrs. Monroe now, my lovely Kay. Quickly, we've been together 7 years and our folks are in their mid to late 80's and are healthy so we thought......now it the time! My brother David, who plays the keys on Smitten and Resigned, rearranged my song for Kay, "She's the One for Me" to piano to walk my bride down the aisle. We had quotes from Black Elk, Lakota Holy Man and a poem I wrote for Kay. My daughters did the reciting. It was great and a lot of fun. I even walked my face into a plate glass window on the way out to pictures. Nothing broke, a little blood, all is well.
I wrote a song for the wedding I performed for Kay and is now part of my set list and I will GET IT RECORDED as soon as I can and post it here for some new music, "I Have You" is the tentative title.
Your support for all the music here at N1M is crucial to us all. YOU are a integral part of our keepin' on keepin' on that we do on the creative end of the spectrum. Thank you for being there and listening and sharing. it keeps the heart pumping.

As Gypsy Eyes courses through my headphones and permeates my soul, I wanted to drop a line to all you beautiful people that have dropped in and seem to dig th3e music I have posted here. Each one of you lifts me up. I appreciate you. I used to work for a company that handled transmitting petroleum pricing and I worked with a lady from Arkansas and she never said thank you, she said "I appreciate you". That's a bit deeper and if you mean it.....you should say it!
My musical journey has taken me to a lot of places. I was on local TV this week promoting an event called THE BOXER 500 a run/walk for Colon Cancer Awareness. I am a survivor, thank goodness, and this will be my 8th year of playing for everyone after they run/walk and line up to get their breakfast form THE PANCAKEMAN ( I wrote him a song! ). They have made me Honorary Chair this year to say thanks and I did the TV spot to say thanks to them. I got to play THEY SAID YEAH for about 40 seconds....big star on TV! It reminds me how lucky I am to be here, let alone to have over 270 people drop into a website and listen to my music. Don't take anything for granted. Especially not life. Keep up on things so you can stay as long as possible. We all need YOU!! No matter what. We're all in this together one way or another. All we need to do is to treat people the way you want to be treated and love each other. Anyone that has truly loved someone knows that may go beyond understanding or agreeing all the time.....the parental experience is a trip.
You all take good care. I have new and old material on the site and I need to get to recording more. Stay tuned and keep scanning that dial and reach out to the artists you enjoy. You're the helium to our balloons!

Greetings my friends. Stephen here the day after the booming and I would like to present to you a new song that is in it's inception but worthy of your discretional ears. My song, Smitten and Resigned was penned by myself and recorded on my first published CD, Traveling at the Speed of Steve, so long ago. It has stood the test of time and my dear brother David has been playing it in Seattle with his band and when he does solo gigs. David in my older brother and an inspiration to my continued efforts musically. This version is arranged by David K. Johnson ( my brother ) and he plays the piano on it. I have paid down the vocals on it and provided some background vocals too ( The Ready for Rehab Singers ). I hope you enjoy it.
This song will reincarnate itself in the future with some adjustments to make it even better. This is a work in progress like everything else we do. I wanted to share this experience with you as you have made me a believer in myself by your listening and kind words.
If any of you are publishers, give me a jingle....

I worked with a company that broadcast the fuel prices from refineries to the wholesalers and one of the companies was in Arkansas and the lady that did the pricing would always end her conversations with "I appreciate you". Something so straight up and ease to say that said way more than "Thanks", which is a big thing to hear too. I've remembered that through the years because it rings so true. So if you dropped by for just a run thru the song list, shared the music (tres gracias....language holds no bounds for me :), I appreciate you. My journey is a rather singular one. I am my own band, booking agent, recording engineer, producer and manager. I wouldn't be here if not for several people, family, kids, friends, doctors and nurses but when it's time to make a decision, it's up to me. Your enthusiasm for my bits of creation excite the little gray cells so that they can continue doing what they do and hopefully create something that resonates with people like you. Some may resonate like a tympani, some a bongo drum, some may go whizzing by to be forgotten or that rare gem that turns into something after the 3rd or 4th listen.
Coming here to N1M has been a bolster to the "keep going" region of the brain and I can't thank you enough for all that you do, how every little or huge it may be.
So in closing, I hope you have the heart of a true hippie that seeks and gives joy, believes in the wonders of life in people and in nature, hug a lot, say I love you a lot and thinks of themselves as worthy of a continually supply of happiness.
Remember, when the oxygen masks drop from the ceiling, put yours on first. Cuz if you're not in a good place you can't help anyone else and we all need to ready and ABLE to help each other.

Hello everyone. Thanks for getting on the email list and I am so glad you are enjoying the tunes here. It's not easy being the solo guy and support, YOUR support keeps me going to the next thing that's gong to happen. It really does. As a listener you put validation on the music we writers lay down. It would be all well and good to write and play for ourselves and truth be known, mostly we write so that tune in our head comes into fruition and it makes us happy to hear it finished but somehow, that is not enough. We have a propensity to share and hope it reaches someone else. That does leave us open to scrutiny and outside appraisals but we can't help ourselves. So here is where you all come in. A LIKE, a SHARE, a report that tells me someone in Russia, Australia, Ohio, Texas.. listened to one of my tunes.....that has energy in it! We pick up on that and we continue on in our quest to bring you all a piece of a pie you have never tasted yet! Without these simple treasures you give, the mind becomes dark and distant and it doesn't believe in itself as much and wonders WHAT WAS I THINKING???
I'm not in a band. I play and write by myself by choice. So it's all up to me what I do and so there is a lot to be said about testing these waters here at N1M and to get these results. It amazes and pleases me to no end.
Oh I know they have a network of your girl pictures that they send out compliments to get us to pay for more services and it is silly to think some young girl is walking around with THERE WAS A TIME in her head. It's a song about extreme sudden loss....then again....it's a catchy tune. There I go believing in myself again! Kind of makes your day even if you don't think its real.
So thank you all.....really. This is as close to a top ten hit a guy may get but it is the thing we want to accomplish, reaching out and pleasing someone. There is a fantastic book by Joesph M. Marshall III called "Keep Going". If you are up against it, I recommend it. A small book with Lakota stories about perseverance. That's what we all do and it helps when we do it together.

Greetings friends! You have added yourself to the mailing list here on N1M. Welcome. I want to heartily thank you for taking the time to listen to the songs I have here. Just to let you know just a little about myself. I'm from and living in Omaha, Nebraska. I play live as often as I can in the area, mostly wineries which are a great setting to play the song list that I have put together over the years. All the songs are MY songs. They are my sonic children and I care deeply about them and YOU the people that listen. My hope is to add to the your musical landscape. I write the songs, I write the parts and play the instruments, I do the same with the vocals. I am my own recording engineer although my set up is quite humble compared to all the amazing things that can be done these days. My philosophy is that if there isn't a good song and good playing, all the technology in the world won't save it. It's a grassroots type of thinking. So it all starts and ends with the song itself.
I've taken enough of your time and some of you have sent me some wonderfully uplifting comments and I thank you for them.
I'm going send out a little info and maybe something special once in a while. Feel free to write back if you have any questions or just want to chat.
I've been playing live music since I graduated High School and I see no reason to stop.....that was a while ago and I still get excited to break out the old guit when I go out to the car for lunch.
