About Steve Lowndes

​Steve Lowndes is a versatile and experienced musician. Although he trained as a double bass player, he is an accomplished vocalist, guitarist and pianist, and has even been known to play a bit of Blues Harmonica. In his time at Leeds College of music and the Birmingham Conservatoire he performed as a session electric bass player, and orchestral double bass.

​In 1989 Steve joined a cover band called Midnight Affair as bass player and vocalist and completed a tour of South Wales and a season at Funcoast World (Butlins) Skegness in the Queen’s Family cabaret bar. Since then he met and married his wife became a music teacher and began to make his musical mark on the East Coast. First as lead vocalist in Step by Step (60’s – 80’s Rock) then as the lead singer and lead guitarist for Nightcall (60’s – 70’s Rock and Glam rock). With Nightcall Steve appeared at the switch on of the lights at Skegness and Mablethorpe.

​Steve’s solo career began in May 1998 and he has appeared all over the county and beyond, from Kirton in Lindsey down to Cambridge. A selection of venues he has performed in is:

Steve still appears as a session bassist with various groups including Monro (Function band) and has featured in the house bands at Butlins both as a bassist and vocalist.

​Steve’s aims to please a cross-section of the public by playing well known tracks covering a variety of styles including Rock, Pop, Disco, Soul, Glam Rock and has even been known to add Country when requested. Many of the tracks used are custom made by Steve and he is also an accomplished composer having written and performed a number of songs performed by himself and others, including Christmas music broadcast on BBC Radio Lincs. It is this variety of music vocal dexterity and good honest music that is all part of Steve’s success to date.
