a cool surprise
When I saw "progressive metal" I thought " Again a project for guitarist..." but no. And I must say that this band surprised me. It goes from more speed parts to something softer, and the singer has really a nice voice, it makes me think as if Tears for Fears meets Metal Music, it's well composed and leads you to a unique music feeling. Well done guys !

Sorrowful Rain is a Force of Nature
A great selection from Norway Progressive Metal band - Strange New Dawn. Excellent driving rhythm intro leads to a spacious room with haunting vocals. Hints of Pink Floyd/Dream Theater/Queensryche make this a powerhouse of a song.

Sorrowful Rain review. this song is a strictly Metal piece in the highest sense of the word. everything sounds in Metal style as I said everything recalls the Metal genre. personally it is not my favorite genre but I can give you a musical judgment that is certainly positive because all that there must be in a Metal piece in your piece is therefore complimented and continues. good job

Rain of soundfull
When the avalanche falls there is no way to stop it, drag, push and carry everything to its path. So begins this song that when you think you're going to stay there, release the tie and gives you a break, just when the voice comes, slender, delicate, firm on the huge mattress of bajom drums, pads and traveling guitars. The melodies, melancholy, recall something from The the Cult, an 80's air that fills the atmosphere and covers everything. The well-made mix gives rise to each instrument. good is shown in the solo that without stridency sounds and is heard accompanying the harmonies. Sorrowful Rain is a trip worth visiting.

Strange New Dawn offers something unique and EXTREMELY dynamic!
In the opening 40 seconds alone, we hear Strange New Dawn exhibit an uncanny ability to utilize dynamics to create interesting song structure. Think of it more like a musical story being is told. Right out of the gate they introduce the track with a melodic, straight forward radio rock chord progression that quickly develops into driving double bass driven rhythms. Shortly after, they seamlessly devolve the distortion into clean, dreamy, melancholic verses that will contribute to the dynamic of the upcoming distorted chorus. As we drop into said verses, vocals are introduce in a big way. The vocalist here shows absolute ability while adopting an operatic style that straddles various eras of rock and metal. The slow, separated vibrato that you might have heard in the late 70s, early 80s a la Rainbow and Maiden mixed with the lower register and somewhat gothic approach of Moonspell. I truly believe there is an undoubted capacity for mass appeal within the fans that make up the rock/metap community. If we took the darker, brooding vocal approach of modern, melodic goth acts, spun in a 70s-80s foundation, added a healthy dose of traditional metal chops topped with highly accessible radio rock, you might have something close to this offering. Realistically I would rate this at 3 out of 5 stars, but could easily see them becoming a 5 star act after refining the combination of approaches they've decided to utilize.

Great Groove.
I love the loud drums! Crunchy guitar lets you know something serious comes. The voice does the job, very serious as portended. It doesn't matter if a different language you can't understand comes through, because it carries very well with great passion. Very metal. Very good. Best of luck to you , you rocking Rockers!

EXCELLENT! awesome work!
Very well recorded, the drums are crisp and well balanced. I can feel the bass, it is worked well into the mix without being overpowering. the vocals are intelligible, great job. LOVE the guitars, nice amount of distortion without going overboard, the riffs have energy to them. overall nice work. personally I'd add reverb to the voice to give it more depth, and would put the guitars on an autopan to give them stereo motion within the mix. I prefer cymbals a little hotter than most recordings let them be and panned around the stereo image. sweet work! do a music video!

Sorrowful but powerful
The rock compliments the metal. The melodies compliment the heaviness. The atmosphere compliments both the emotion and the musicianship. Sorrowful Rain by Strange New Dawn is gothic metal song that has all of these elements that i have mentioned here. It is well written and there style gives me Type O Negative nostalgia. I give this Sorrowful track a 4.3 out of five. I'm looking forward to any music that these guys put in the future.

NOt all that sorrowful
This sorrowful rain doesn't sound all that sorrowful! It sounds like a FREAKING THUNDER STORM FROM HELL! Heck yeah, this song rocks! It starts out like I just got slashed by a freaking lightning storm. then is changes tempo and might be somewhat sorrowful. More like that hard pounding rain that leaves whelps on your freaking face! I really like your lead singers vocals. Deep and thrustful. UGGG! Awesome tune guys! Keep up the good work.

Strange? Yes it is...
Sorrowful Rain sporadically encases you into a torrential downfall with emotional outbursts of symphonic vocal sustain, unleashing unpredictable tempo changes and variations, orchestrated with imaginative though and originality. I found myself absorbed in the tonal matrix, almost lost in the unpredictable rhythmic destinations and turns. Interestingly enough, it ends abruptly, like rain would. If this was accidental or purposeful, it should be left as is in my opinion. Any great effort makes you think of the possible inspirations that lead up to the actual composition. A very original effort.

SORROWFUL RAIN
rhythm guitars lack definition a bit washed out in intro. abrupt change to verse is a bit offputting. really like the verse atmosphere. great vocalist and love his expression and passion and production is great bridge gets a bit lost and what carries the song is when the vocals take control. think the guitar sound needs to be cleaned up. they are great players but the guitar production is lacking nice clean drum sound. bass is a bit lost. ending is lame and needs work. potentially great song and would like to hear more from this band!

Sorrowful Rain
First, you have a great blend of talents musically and lyrically, especially enhanced by the two of you being brothers or cousins. This fact brings a unique synchronization to the method and the vision of the songs you write and co-produce. I felt this song was based on a very sad vision or dream. I could feel the sorrow over what you saw and how you felt when you saw it. I am not an accomplished musician, however, I sense music and it paints a picture in the eyes of my heart. This track is top notch for instrumentation, a great start to the song, needs some work on the finish, but overall A Stunning Newt Rock Metal Sound. I would suggest you capitalize on the start of the song and add it in at the end and shorten the track a bit. The drummer is also ACE!

Interesting Prog Rock
You notice the music the Scandinavian impact: long winter, cold, low light, sad melancholy mood. So the song is after a rather straight-line beginning in the course rather gloomy. The begin of the song sounds a bit like dark metal/punk, after that it all reminds me of David Bowie (heroes), especially the voice. The guitar play is very well, the production and the mix professional. A very interesting song!

Where's the resolve?
First off the music is mixed well nice balance between all the instruments ,however this song has no direction it's telling no story for that reason I couldn't follow it . The intro was really cool had a nice groove and riff to it ,but they never touched on it again and I felt the verses where way too long kinda like a run on sentence. Again where was the song going what was it's destination? Now on to the lyrics again these too told no story and were way to repetitive. Also the vocals had no depth or character they were very monotone. I just couldn't listen to the vocals like that .now I will say this band has great potential they just need to work on their story telling and direction i.e. a beginning a middle and end just like the great story books we love to read . I think if they are going to keep those style of vocals then they need to reevaluate the music accompaniment it just didn't melt together well. Again great band with great potential just work on the stories. And less repetition.!!!

Good Production
Strange New Dawn has a unique flowing sound. The lyrics take you on a mystical journey through time and space. The production sounds very professional and the over all quality of the song is done very nicely.

So good!
Right away, i'm hooked. This is good old school. Heavy as hell, tight performance...excellent production. I like the direction of the track...haunting, well done. Vocals stand out, while the ethereal keys linger in the back. This reminds me of all the best progressive music, yet it has it's own place. The vocalist is clearly more than adept at his trade. He has it all. The heaviness right around half way through is perfectly complimented by the lead guitar work, which is tasteful, and well executed. Well produced, engineered... 10 stars!

Very etheral and somehow gloomy song
Song is buildig up very nicely. The intro is strong. Perhaps jump from intro to 1st verse was bit steep, it could have had a bridge to steer listener to verse. The vocalist has a very cool and clear voice. I like the drums in the mix. The snare is bith tight to my taste. Very etheral and somehow gloomy song.
